Doncaster 1.10
Lord P is the obvious starting point here given his progressive form and the fact he is chasing a hat-trick now. This is tougher though and he is 2lb out the handicap so I’m not sure he justifies being as short in the betting as he is. On the balance I’d make him opposable and last time out winner CALL ME GINGER could go close. He needs a good pace to aim at but Mountain Brave should go hard from the off and if he has a target to run down I don’t think a 4lb rise will stop him.
Embour ran well at Catterick on penultimate start but didn’t exactly back that up at Haydock last time. He will probably give his running but might find a couple too good. Giogiobbo is overpriced as he has won three times over this C&D so looks value to hit the frame.
Doncaster 1.40
This is competitive and I do like Dora Penny who is on a hat-trick but I’ve decided to go with the unexposed SUMMER’S DAY for Appleby and Buick. This Invincible Spirit filly improved to open her account at Brighton last time and while she’ll need to step forward again into a nursery now there is good reason to think she will and that latest victory came out well on the clock too. She should get a nice toe in and appeals as one of the most likely winners in here.
Dora Penny is a threat but so is Daiquiri Francais who is also going for three in a row after defying a penalty at Windsor. Conditions are very different today though and she was workmanlike last time. Gnat Alley has been tipped by Hugh Taylor so looks overbet albeit he is bred to improve up to 6f here.
Doncaster 2.10
The hat-trick seeking HARROW is definitely one of my best bets on the card on Day 2. He gradually improved to open his account at Ffos Las last month and backed that up with an authoritative win at York last time. He had some decent types in behind that day so the form has some substance. This fast ground should suit and with the promise of more to come I think he is good value to come out on top. He has quite a bit of pace around him which should help him settle and give him a nice trail into the race.
Ever Given has won 4 of his 6 starts and showed a great attitude to prevail by a neck at York last time in a valuable sales race. He looks the obvious danger given how strong his form is but the market has reacted that way and he looks too short to me so is opposable on price grounds. Jazz Club impressed at Windsor but that was just a maiden and this is significantly tougher.
Doncaster 2.40
Frankel filly INSPIRAL has looked hugely exciting in two starts to date overcoming inexperience to make a winning start at Newmarket before improving to win impressively at Sandown last time. She definitely falls into the ‘could be anything’ category and with more to come she can make it a perfect 3-3 under Frankie. She can be keen so I don’t think he’ll want to get involved early. I expect her to be switched off out the back before picking them off one by one close home.
Sea The Moon filly Speak knew her job making a winning start at Kempton and the second Natasha has won by 5 lengths since. I think she has a bright future but obviously on this occasion she just looks to be bumping into one. Hopefully she runs well as she may well be one to follow going forward. Prosperous Voyage will be suited by the step up to a mile and also has a squeak.
Doncaster 3.15
I feel like SAVE A FOREST has been largely overlooked in the betting as I was impressed with how she got on top in the closing stages at Newmarket last time. She beat some good fillies on that occasion and had Yesyes back in fourth. She has franked the form since getting back to winning ways at Chester. This further step up to 1m6f can bring about more improvement and she looks sure to go well under an in-form Callum Shepherd.
Yesyes is unexposed so could emerge as the danger but Free Wind has won 3 of her last 4 and also looks to have a big shout under Frankie Dettori. Tribal Craft has some strong form in the book and shouldn’t be easily overlooked in a good renewal.
Doncaster 3.45
Modern News showed a good attitude to prevail at Newmarket last time and has to be respected but he is up 6lb and might just be bumping into one in the shape of VALUE TIP for William Haggas. This son of Dark Angel has won 3 of his last 4 and impressed to follow up his Lingfield win over C&D last month. He is up just 2lb from that so you’d be foolish to rule out further improvement. When he won at Lingfield he went forward and dictated but he showed he is versatile coming through horses last time. There isn’t any obvious pace on so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go forward and look to burn them off on this quick surface.
Modern News does look the danger but I think Run To Freedom has a future having put it altogether to win a competitive race at Newmarket last time. If he builds on that again he might be the value play to chase the selection home.
Doncaster 4.15
A disappointing turn-out for the lucky last and I’m tentatively siding with the outsider of the three in HARROVIAN for John and Thady Gosden. He has done nothing wrong in his last two starts going down just a head at Doncaster on return in July before being beaten a length at Windsor last month acquitting himself well in defeat. This might be a small field but it is competitive again but I think he is worth chancing. He has run at this track twice winning as a 4yo and then going down a head here earlier this season so he clearly acts well on the track.
Secret Protector was a bit unlucky not to finish closer in the Saratoga Derby and his previous form is also respectable. Sinjaari might be a bigger danger though as he has also been running well and was beaten just a neck by the progressive Migration when last seen at York last month.
