Kempton 4.45

Mark Johnston won this last year with Mister Allegro and I think the market has overlooked the chances of GANGWAY here. This colt by Gleneagles hasn’t fulfilled his potential yet but it is still relatively early days after just a handful of starts. He switches to the AW for the first time and that could see him improve. He ran poorly at Ffos Las last month but he got racing too early and his second at Musselburgh prior to that was a much better effort. There is potential for him to go forward and dictate here as there isn’t much pace on and Joe Fanning is certainly the right man for the job. I think he is a great each way play in a tricky opener.

Greatness Awaits won easily at Chepstow last week staying on well in the closing stages but he is turned out fairly quickly under a penalty and will need to improve again switched to polytrack. There has been market support for Highland Reel colt Buxted Reel so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him improve and play a hand.

Gangway 9/1 each way

Another tough race to dissect so I’ve stayed away from the top of the market and ADAAYDREAMBELIEVER looks worth covering each way. She’ll need to better that latest run but there have been bits and pieces of promise most notably when fourth on handicap debut at Bath in July where she was only beaten 2 and a half lengths. She is 5lb lower here and if she can improve this looks a weak race on paper. Georgia Dobie claims a handy 3lb so that will help too and in a competitive race she looks a bit overpriced at around 8/1 at the time of writing.

Winter Siege ran quite well over C&D last month, faring best of those held up, and she has been dropped another 2lb. Hollie Doyle is back in the saddle so she has a good chance of getting involved. Mythical Star travelled well last time before backing out of it. Could also be an improver so is feared as well.

Dark Terms is probably the starting point here as she is gradually improving and still looked green when fourth over C&D last time. With more to come she has leading claims but I thought it might be worth chancing CHARMING WALLY for Darryll Holland. This Charming Thought colt didn’t run great at Catterick last time but his run before that when fourth to Freyabella has worked out well since and if he can bounce back in the first-time blinkers I think he could have a big say in the outcome here. He could go forward under Stefano Cherchi and if he gets the fractions right he might not come back to them.

Other than Dark Terms Pretty Green is worth a second look as she wasn’t disgraced in third at Wolverhampton last time. She was beaten less than 3 lengths and the visor stays on. This is easier so she should get competitive at least. Offering is unexposed so certainly shouldn’t be ignored as she could easily improve and land a blow here.

Kempton 6.15

I know PURE CHARMER has had quite a few chances but her form is right up there and that second at Lingfield last month was a good effort and if she can build on that she might put her experience to good use. She has finished runner-up 5 times already in her short career but I don’t see much wrong with her attitude and if this works out for her she could be good value to beat the unexposed Psychic Change and fellow maiden Lil Guff. She will go forward and like a lot of my selections tonight I’ll be hoping they don’t get to her in the straight.

Lil Guff has been running well but she doesn’t find much off the bridle. I think that makes Psychic Change the danger as she ran well on debut to finish third, only fading late. If she strengthens up from that she could play a hand here. Roseberry Topping didn’t show a great deal on debut but it wouldn’t surprise you to see her step forward given her breeding.

Pure Charmer 7/2

Thakrah has been backed off the boards for this but I think that is probably based on the stable form rather than what she showed on debut. She certainly wasn’t disgraced in fourth and does hold some fancy entires but at a shade of odds-on she looks too short to back and I prefer an each way bet on COMMANDMENT for Ed Dunlop. This filly by Acclamation ran a cracker when third at Nottingham on debut and quickly improved to chase home Minnamoolka at Salisbury. I know the form has taken a couple of knocks since but this filly can improve again stepping up to 7f now and she looks too big in the market.

Thakrah would have to be considered as one of the dangers but debutant Rakurai could go well given her relations. New Approach filly Fresh Fancy could also have a bright future for Roger Charlton and is one to keep an eye on in the betting in the run up to the race. This should throw up plenty of future winners so definitely a race to tune in for.

Kempton 7.15

I like BEHELD and I think this looks a good chance for her to get back to winning ways. She can race keenly so you’d want to see her settle here but there is no doubting her form. She was beaten just a short head by Badlands back in May on return. She then bumped into Wishaah over C&D and had excuses when last at Newmarket behind Anghaam – strong form. Given a bit of time since she ran better beaten just over a length at Haydock and back on the AW off a mark of 83 I think she has plenty in favour now. There shouldn’t be any excuses in this small field so hopefully she gets a bit of cover before launching a challenge in the straight.

Cry Havoc has been the one for money this morning and has won 3 times on the AW already. We haven’t seen her for nearly 300 days but she does go well fresh so she could easily be the danger. Sealed Offer also catches the eye but she probably needs a really strong gallop to be seen to best effect and might not get that here.

Beheld 4/1

It’s taken LIBERTY WARRIOR a bit of time to come to hand but he was an eye-catcher when second at Salisbury last month and then flashed home for fourth at Newcastle last time. He just got going too late and really hit the line strong from off the pace. This step up to a mile and a half could be the making of him and I’m surprised he opened 8/1 in the market. I think he’ll be a big mover come post time so fingers crossed for a big run as I’ll be shocked if he isn’t better than a mark of just 77.

Spring Glow, Maketh Believeth and Where’s Tom could all go forward and the harder they go early the better it will be for the selection as he looks to close late. Buted Too is eased in class and in the weights so has to be feared. Lion Face is unexposed and didn’t run badly when third over C&D last time. If he builds on that it would see him involved.

Kempton 8.15

The lucky last can go to NOTEBOOK for Ed de Giles and William Buick. The penny has gradually been dropping with this one and he was a bit of an eye-catcher when fifth at Windsor. He was slowly into stride but stayed on well in the closing stages. He stepped forward on that to chase home a couple of useful types at Ffos Las. The second Polar Ice has won well since and looks a nice horse so that form has substance. He then put in a career best when second to the progressive Hesperis last time. If he builds on that he will surely win this?

Vive La Danse is also knocking on the door and looks the biggest danger to the selection. Sundayinmay was behind the latter last time but did show a good attitude to win before that and it’s still early days so she shouldn’t be entirely written off either. I think the 3 mentioned have it between them and in all honesty it looks a really good chance for the selection to finally open his account and at a fair price.
