Sandown 1.50

It’s a shame this race has cut up as it was looking like quite a good one with Seneca Chief and Glamorous Breeze doing battle again. It looks a great chance for the largely unexposed MELODY KING to strike now and I’ll be surprised if he’s beaten to be honest. If he brings that Hamilton form to the table where he beat Iris Dancer that should be good enough to take this. Even though there are only 5 runners now I think he’ll be ridden quietly before looking to burst through late under Oisin Murphy.

Bella Notte won at Salisbury last year but has been held since. She had been holding her form well until blowing out at Lingfield but just didn’t look to take to the surface. If she bounces back she could be the danger. The Daley Express best of the rest but surely vulnerable for win purposes?

Melody King 4/5

Sandown 2.25

This is wide open and we could see some nice types for the future here. Goldspur is certainly bred to be smart so it will be interesting to see how he fares in the betting. I can see him going off a warm order come post time. I’m going to chance WOLSEY at bigger odds though now Cabrakan is out. This Kitten’s Joy colt cost $275,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to Elusive Quality. He is certainly bred to be useful and it will be interesting to see how he does first-up.

Highland Reel colt Speycaster is one I’ll be looking at with an eye to the future. He cost 32,000 guineas as a yearling and might just need more time to be seen to best effect. It’s a good race though even with the non runners so trackers at the ready.

Wolsey 10/3

Sandown 2.55

I’m sticking with ATHEBY here after two useful efforts. He was chucked into Group company when down the field in the Solario last time but that was a good race and while he probably needs to improve again he has already clocked some decent time-figures and this could be a good chance for him to take advantage. You only have to look at the odds he has been sent off in two starts to date (40/1 and 100/1) to know this is a great opportunity.

Wodeton is by far and away the most interesting debutant. He cost £100,000 and is a half-brother to Salateen. The yard are 7-45 with 2yo newcomers so he should run well under Oisin Murphy. Damaar is also a likely type first-up but may well be better for the experience.

Sandown 3.30

It’s a shame Perotto has come out as I thought he looked a decent price. Bell Rock and Accidental Agent have also been scratched this morning so I’m taking a chance on BULLACE for Ralph Beckett. This Toronado colt made it 3 wins from his first 4 starts on return at Newmarket in April. He has been beaten twice since but chased home Mostahdaf and Highland Avenue in a good race at Sandown where he was too keen and then found the St James’s Palace Stakes too hot last time. He still has potential if he can drop his head and I think he is good value against these.

Mostahdaf has to be feared now but does have a bit to prove after that last run himself. Sir Busker doesn’t know how to run a bad race and should also be on the premises. Rhoscolyn has been running to a useful level and I expect him to be in the shake-up as well.

I’ve been really impressed with NOTEBOOK and this Cable Bay filly came from well off the pace to complete the hat-trick at Kempton at the start of the month. The field were well strung out in behind with the front three nicely clear. She is up another 6lb now which means she has gone up a total of 17lb since her winning run started in August. I know it sounds silly but I still think she’s ahead of the assessor. The way she is moving in her races and doing what is required really is quite impressive and if she can get settled again and switched off early I think she’ll pick these up as well. She gets the 3yo allowance which is obviously a big plus too.

Fellow 3yo Deep Sigh may well be the one to chase her home. She improved to overcome a steady gallop at Doncaster and is also the type to do better. Professional Widow has run fairly well the last twice and might also have a say.

Sandown 4.40

I can see Wallem going close here and I’d actually make him favourite but that being said DUAL IDENTITY does look overpriced. This son of Belardo should relish conditions and I liked the way he beat Liberty Warrior at Salisbury on penultimate start. His third to Time Interval prior to that has worked out well so his form is stacking up. He wasn’t seen to best effect at Kempton last time but if he bounces back here back down in trip he is a bit overlooked at around 9/1 at the time of writing.

Wallem is the one to beat after catching the eye behind Mohaafeth at Newmarket. He is unexposed so should go close. The drop in trip might cost Ziggy though he does need respect too. Cream Inglesa wasn’t seen to best effect last time and is better than that. Also catches the eye back up in trip.

Sandown 5.10

This looks a good opportunity for VALUE TIP to follow up. She was due to run at Epsom last week but was taken out late. Her Lingfield win has since been given a nice boost with the second Wearediditallgorong winning impressively at Chelmsford next time out. She is up just 3lb and that looks very lenient given what we know now. That was just her fourth start so there should be lots more to come yet.

Dubawi filly Missile was a good second on handicap debut but failed to back that up last time. If she can bounce back she would be the danger but I have my doubts. Sky Bright also has something to prove off the back of that disappointing run last time but I think she might be the danger if returning to form as she had won her previous two starts prior to that blip. New Heights is another one in good form but she will also need to find more to trouble the selection.
