The Value Tip landed again yesterday so we head into Friday chasing a hat-trick now. I really like the chances of VALUE TIP in the opener at Ascot. This horse has looked progressive all season and travelled notably well before being joined on the line to dead-heat at Newcastle last time. The horse he crossed the line with Delgrey Boy has gone close twice since off a higher mark so the form certainly has substance. We know he is effective over this C&D given how well he ran here in July, only beaten narrowly. He remains unexposed and a mark of 90 should still be within reach with the promise of more to come.
Dark Shift got back on the up winning over 7f here last time and looks one of the main dangers getting the 3yo weight allowance. Walhaan chased home Uncle Bryn over C&D last time and also has to enter calculations. I’m expecting the selection to go off much shorter than the 4/1 on offer at the time of writing.
Ascot 2.30
This is a relatively new race for Ascot with just two prior renewals but it does produce some decent horses. This renewal looks so competitive with some of these looking to have plenty of potential. COUNTRY PYLE gets the vote as she gets the filly allowance plus plenty of weight from those that have won previously. She hasn’t won a race yet but has run to good level on all 3 starts with form of 2nd, 3rd and 3rd finishing close up in all of those runs. She will be better for the step up in trip and carrying just 8 stone 11 pounds she should go very well here.
Bartzella is the main danger after a nice win on debut followed up by a fair run at Thirsk over this trip. She carried a penalty for the win that day and does again today. She was only 4 lengths behind the winner at Thirsk giving her plenty of weight and she slipped on the turn which cost her plenty. She will be right in the mix.

Visually NOTEBOOK was mightily impressive here a month ago. He just looked a bundle of energy and when Cieren Fallon let him down he fairly took off and sprinted clear. He looks an uncomplicated sort and the step up in trip can help him if anything. He deserves a crack at Listed company now and given how unexposed he is over staying trips who knows how high he could go. His form stacks up and as competitive as this looks he is a horse I want to keep firmly on side.
Scope has been more of a talking horse than a doer and I’m still waiting for him to confirm the promise he showed initially. He has been highly tried behind the likes of Yibir and Hurricane Lane the last twice though so will find this a lot easier. Mandoob also has plenty of ability so has to be respected. This race does have strength in depth as even Classic Lord and Valley Forge are fair yardsticks.
Ascot 3.40
This looks a good quality handicap but there is one I think they all have to beat in PROP FORWARD. He is unlucky not to be 3 wins from 3 starts as he lost out by a head on debut after running loose before the race. He won nicely at Bath after that and followed it up with an easy win under a penalty at Wolverhampton last time. He has been given a mark of 87 which seems lenient as I feel he has the potential to be rated a lot higher. If in the same form as his last run he will take all the beating.
Bickerstaffe is a seasoned handicapper now and has some cracking form to his name so I expect a big run from him but the main danger may prove to be Liberated Lady who went close on her last two handicap runs. That said I think the selection has scope to improve beyond anything these have shown so far.
Ascot 4.15
Future Investment has become expensive to follow this season and while you can probably mark up that third at Doncaster last time he is likely to go off short again and I’m keen to oppose. I like the chances of INDIANAPOLIS for Ian Williams. This son of Galileo is now down to a mark of just 83 which is some 14lb lower than his last winning mark which granted was way back in 2019. I know we’re taking a bit of a chance with him as he didn’t show a great deal at Haydock last time but saying that he wasn’t beaten far and there have been bits and pieces of promise this season. If this pans out favourably he is handicapped to have a big say in the outcome.
Royaume Uni is unexposed back on the Flat and could run a big race while Rajinsky had been consistent prior to running poorly under quick conditions at Haydock. Softer conditions here will help him and that brings him into the picture. At a bigger price Caribeno could be dangerous if allowed a soft time of it upfront.

Looking forward to seeing Kingman’s half-brother SUNRAY MAJOR at Ascot on Friday. This colt impressed making a winning return at Chelmsford last month, quickening clear to score by 4 lengths at the line. He makes his handicap debut now in a competitive race but is open to further improvement and could be one to follow.
Top Secret loves this C&D and won’t go down without a fight but he lacks the potential the favourite brings to the table and might just struggle to live with his turn of foot. Able Kane proved better than ever winning at Doncaster 3 weeks ago and also has to enter calculations if seeing out the 7f trip. Marshal Dan is the pace angle but is unlikely to have it his own way like at Sandown.
