THE US NAP (BEST BET) WON LAST NIGHT AND RUNS AT CHURCHILL DOWNS TONIGHT!

Race 9 Churchill Downs 9.06 Hoist The Gold (5/4)

Improving colt who left his first two starts behind to open his account over 6f here last month, albeit getting it in the stewards room having suffered interference; showed a good attitude that day and should progress again up in trip now.

It’s hard to look past HOIST THE GOLD here as he bids to land back-to-back wins after getting the verdict in the stewards room the last day. He should relish this extra yardage and looks the most likely winner for me. Blue Kentucky won well on just his second start and while he failed to back that up at this level last time he might be worth another chance and could be a good value bet to hit the frame. Dr. Perry won easily last time and would also be a danger if building on that. Legendary Lore has a similar profile to the latter and should also be suited by stepping up to a mile so also has to enter calculations in what looks a good race but hard to oppose the fav with the promise of more to come.

Race 7 Santa Anita 10.35 Floral Essence (6/5)

Promising filly who has been knocking on the door recently and went close again beaten less than a length over a mile here last time; should keep improving with experience and this looks a good chance to make the breakthrough.

This looks a great opportunity for the likeable FLORAL ESSENCE to get her head in front. She is improving with every race and that was a career best last time denied just three-quarters of a length at the line. She has more to offer and can get the better of these tonight. Witch Moon was disappointing last time but this is easier and she has to be of some interest on her earlier form. Momma Mocca weakened tamely last time but again this is a bit easier so she could also make her presence felt if bouncing back. Judy With Grace was behind the selection last time and looks held on that recent form. Whistler’s Style was also down the field on that occasion and has plenty to prove again.
