Plumpton 12.45

These two-runner fields have been the story of the National Hunt season so far. Thankfully the rest of the card is a lot more competitive. I think ANNUAL INVICTUS will be hard to beat here for Chris Gordon. This horse was progressive over hurdles winning 3 in a row before an excellent fourth to Soaring Glory in the Betfair Hurdle. He has taken his form up a notch over fences shaping with promise when second to Faivoir before winning impressively at Cheltenham. That form looks rock solid and he should make it 2 from 3 here.

Dino Velvet won four times over hurdles and certainly hasn’t been disgraced over fences. He has gone off the boil in recent times though and was last of 3 behind Stolen Silver at Market Rasen last month. The trip is also a potential issue as we don’t know if he stays this far yet either.

The market has this between the top 2 but I’d have HARDE FASHION clear favourite. He couldn’t have done much more without winning on debut over hurdles and with usual improvement from that initial experience I expect him to take all the beating here. Back slightly in trip should help and with Style Council likely to put good pace to the race I just expect him to take a toe in before proving the stronger in the closing stages.

Next Left showed enough on debut over hurdles when third at Lingfield to think he’d get competitive here. He should run well but that bare form doesn’t amount to much so he needs a sizeable step forward to trouble the fav seriously. Ted’s Friend best of the rest.

I’m not saying this will be easy but I do think VISION CLEAR is comfortably the one to beat. The yard are going well and this 6yo shaped much better when runner-up at Fakenham 3 weeks ago. The blinkers replace the cheekpieces now and if he builds on that he should have too much for these rivals as it looks a really winnable race on paper. Even at the time of writing he is proving popular so I expect him to go off a well backed favourite come post time.

Karakoram hasn’t won for a couple of years but has dropped down a long way in the weights as a result. His form has been a bit better recently so he should run his race but I couldn’t have him to upset the fav. Greek Kodiac is probably a bigger danger but he shaped as though something amiss on previous hurdling start so also has enough to prove which makes the selection a strong play.

Given the form the Tizzard yard are in at the moment I can see Numbers Man being quite popular here but I’m not entirely convinced by him and I think he is worth opposing. NOTEBOOK is the one that catches the eye. He won really well over fences at Huntingdon when last seen and put away since could be capable of even better this season. The handicapper has certainly reacted raising him 12lb for that victory but he did win by some 24 lengths so you can’t say it’s harsh. I still think he is ahead of his mark and he looks the one they have to beat here.

Light N Strike has been knocking on the door and has had a wind op so deserves a second look. En Coeur looks quite high in the weights but has plenty of ability and has had a wind op so shouldn’t be entirely ruled out either. Blistering Bob has enough to prove on chase debut.

Plumpton 2.45

Another open race with CREMANT given a chance to get his head in front. He has been in great form placing on his last 3 starts. He made a mistake last time out which meant the margin behind the winner was bigger than ideal but he has been dropped 2lb here which puts him right in the mix. It’s frustrating we only have the 7 runners as he would be an each way bet to nothing with the 3 places but I still think he’ll be in the 2 if building on that last run.

Mr Yeats is the danger as he is seeking his hat-trick after nice wins at Huntingdon and Wincanton. He has a good chance of landing the hat-trick but does have a 7lb penalty to contend with which will make it more difficult. Glasha’s Peak looked a danger before being brought down over C&D a fortnight ago so also has to be respected in an open race.

Plumpton 3.15

Not the best race here and it does look SILVER NICKEL’s to lose. He ran well at the track 2 weeks ago to finish second going down just 2 lengths and he might be better for this longer trip. He has run well off higher marks and with just the extra 3lb on his back he should be the one they have to beat. He has useful 3lb claimer Daniel Sansom in the saddle again and everything points to a big run.

Uallrightharry will need to improve for the break (off 169 days) as he doesn’t look obviously well handicapped but in this weaker race he could be a danger. Of the rest Black Centaur in first-time cheekpieces is interesting as he isn’t that consistent so it could be just what he needs.

Plumpton 3.45

Antony missed out by just a short head at Fontwell last month and that was a big run but he is too short for me to back here and at the age of 11 now he isn’t a certainty to build on that. I prefer the chances of JUNGLE PROSE for Nick Gifford. This mare is yet to get her head in front over hurdles but ran a cracker back from 6 months off to chase home Achy Breaky Heart over C&D last month. If she builds on that she looks sure to go close under handy 5lb claimer Tabitha Worsley.

Top Man is the one I fear most as I thought he took a step back in the right direction when fifth at Fontwell last month. His mark continues to tumble and now some 22lb below his last winning mark he could easily be a danger here. Ding Ding always has to be respected at Plumpton but she’ll need to better that recent fifth to land a blow here.
