Dan Skelton has been going great guns these last few days and we saw another really promising individual in Viva Lavilla who made a winning start over hurdles at Lingfield yesterday. He could have another smart juvenile on his hands in the shape of HARTUR D’OUDAIRIES here. This French recruit ran out a convincing winner of his bumper in France and is thought to be pretty useful so I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t make a winning start over timber.

Party Business has shaped with promise in all 3 starts in bumpers and looks the obvious danger if taking to this discipline. Let’s Have Another represents the Olly Murphy team and he showed ability despite running green when third in a Ffos Las bumper and he can also do better with time and experience.

This looks like a good mares race even with just the 7 taking their chance. PRECIOUS ELEANOR looks handicapped to make her mark in this race after a very good comeback run over fences. She finished last season in great form over hurdles bar 1 fall and she looks as though she will have more to come. She will improve from her first run of the season at Fakenham and go close here.

The main danger is the favourite at the time of writing Fontaine Collonges who steps up in trip again. Her best form does seem to be over 2 miles so it will be interesting to see how she does at this trip but certainly has the scope for improvement in handicaps.

I know the Nicky Henderson yard is hard to put a handle on at this time of year but I think QUEENS RIVER will be tough to beat here. She has been a bit uneasy in the market but she cost £330,000 and is bred to be pretty smart. She won her sole Irish point and is likely to be a cut above this bunch before going on to better things. I would like to see her in the paddock before parting with my hard earned but she should have these covered.

West Balboa was second in her Irish point and only cost €27,000 but could still be a nice enough prospect and is expected to chase the short-priced favourite home. Joyful Kit has experience but looked to need further at Plumpton so will at least relish this step up in trip.

They look to have found the perfect race here for EDWARDSTONE to regain his confidence after being brought down on chase debut at the track earlier in the month. It is a 5-runner field again and I am sure Tom Cannon will give him plenty of room to get him into a rhythm. He is the highest rated by some way and if getting a clear round he is the one to beat.

Elixir De Nutz is a good looking type who is clearly talented but he can’t be the easiest to train given we’ve only seen him once in the last couple of years. If fully revved up he could go well and with the yard having made a good start he could be the danger. Stepney Causeway makes his chase debut but may end up going too hard.

Salley Gardens won well at Fakenham yesterday so he is unlikely to be turned out for this. If he is taken out that makes VALUE TIP a really strong play here for Philip Hobbs. There was a fair bit of money for him on reappearance at Uttoxeter but he shaped to me as a horse that would come on plenty for the run. He duly proved that winning well at Exeter last month and with more to come given his lightly raced profile a 5lb rise is unlikely to anchor him. He beat Get Back Get Back by 3 lengths and he is a decent yardstick who has chased home another progressive horse in See The Sea since. The third First Quest won his next start by 7 lengths and even the fourth Celestial Force made the most of a good opportunity at Taunton.

Getalead also improved to win by a nose at Wincanton and looks the danger. Italian Spirit is also likely to go well for a yard on flames but will find this tougher than that maiden hurdle win at Fakenham.

Warwick 2.50

This years renewal of the Veterans’ Chase looks so competitive with it hard to rule many of these out. Last years winner POTTERS LEGEND is only 5lb higher in the weights and is going to get similar conditions to last year. He had a great season but his last 2 runs have disappointed with the ground likely a bit quicker than he would like. If in the same form as last season he will be right there at the finish.

There are plenty of dangers with Vintage Clouds and Regal Encore having decent prep runs for this and Minellacelebration down a further 2lb in the weights bringing him into the mix.

Warwick 3.20

I never like being overly confident in bumpers as they are for young horses who are learning their trade before being sent over hurdles. Narrow preference is for BONNET who has experience at least after finishing runner-up at Exeter a month ago. She went down a couple of lengths and looks sure to come on for that effort. If she does she will go close in here as it doesn’t look an overly strong contest to finish.

Madam Malarkey has been the market mover this morning and she is certainly bred to be fairly useful. If she is forward enough and fully revved up she might give the selection something to think about. Of the rest Konigin Isabella might be worth a second look as the stable usually target bumpers.
