Ascot 12.20

Good card at Ascot on Friday and we kick off with an intriguing maiden hurdle where the front 3 could all be nice types. DOCTOR KEN heads the market for Olly Murphy and he does get the vote. He improved to win a bumper at Market Rasen at the third time of asking and shaped with promise when third to Gelino Bello on hurdles debut at Aintree. He should be a lot more streetwise now and with usual improvement I think he’ll be hard to beat.

Kincardine won a bumper at Southwell despite showing signs of inexperience and Nicky Henderson has been quite vocal about the horse saying he is one of the best prospects he has had for Her Majesty in a long time so we’ll see if he can make a winning start over hurdles. I think he might do better for the run and that tilts the balance to the fav. Pull Again Green also has potential and impressed at Uttoxeter so shouldn’t be far away.

Ascot 12.55

Just the 4 going to post for this handicap chase but we have quality in the runners we do have. TORN AND FRAYED finished third at Cheltenham on his seasonal and chase debut. He is a consistent sort and I expect him to improve a fair bit from the that run as he needed the run last time he had a break. He will be near full fitness for this and is definitely the one to beat.

Faivoir was behind the selection last time at Cheltenham and even though Ascot might be easier to jump round he still has the same issue of giving a lot of weight away to his rivals. He will be the main danger but Torn And Frayed could have more wiggle room in his handicap mark. Cascova is interesting on chase debut but may need the the run after 236 days off.

Ascot 1.30

Small fields is the story of the day and the story of this National Hunt season so far. GO DANTE looks a promising son of Kayf Tara and he should remain unbeaten here for Olly Murphy. He bolted up in a bumper at Wincanton on debut and quickly improved back from a break to win by 18 lengths at Bangor last month, left clear. He is sure to keep improving and he gets a confident vote to justify cramped odds under Aidan Coleman. He could have a very bright future indeed.

Tweed Skirt failed to justify strong support when only fourth on hurdles debut at Uttoxeter but should come on from that and is most likely to finish second as the market is suggesting. Military Decoration lacks experience and Blueblood looks pretty limited so both are likely to be safely held here.

Ascot 1.30

Go Dante 2/7

Ascot 2.05

This looks a fairly open handicap but I feel GUY has the edge after a very good comeback run to finish second at Market Rasen last month. He is up 2lb for that but he should improve and has the fitness edge over plenty of these rivlals. If in the same form he will be bang there.

Venetia Williams has a good record in this race and Pink Legend off 129 could be a live danger and she goes well fresh. Of the rest Red Risk finished just behind the selection last time out and could have scope for improvement even off top weight.

Ascot 2.40

Captain Morgs is undoubtedly talented but he doesn’t always put it all in and again I felt like he was saving something for himself on reappearance at Cheltenham. He is entitled to come on for that but I’m not sure he’ll relish coming back down in trip and I’m keen to oppose at a short enough price given how competitive this looks. LEONCAVALLO chased home Soaring Glory over C&D last time and that form puts him right in the mix. If he backs that up I can’t see how he won’t be involved at the business end.

Highway One O Two was fifth behind the selection last time and that wasn’t a bad effort so he might not be too far away. Cabot Cliffs needs to settle a bit better but certainly wasn’t disgraced when third on return and gets to run off the same mark so that makes him a player as well.

Ascot 3.15

It’s a shame we only have 6 runners here as you can usually get a good price on this race. I am going to take a chance on JATILUWIH who has been running in the point-to-point and hunter chase sphere but is interesting back in this company. He was rated a fair bit higher over hurdles so if still capable of anywhere near that he should have a good chance.

It is a very open race with the main dangers to the selection looking like Kapga De Lily if ready after a break and Getaround who should be fully fit on his second run after a wind-op and is probably the biggest threat of the two.

Ascot 3.50

Hidden Depths did impress last time winning virtually on the bridle. A 7lb penalty makes this tougher though and it has the potential to be more competitive. He is short enough and I like the chances of BADDESLEY for Chris Gordon. This horse is very much unexposed after just 5 starts (and only 2 over hurdles) and ran well when second to Jetaway Joey at Uttoxeter last month. If he continues on an upward curve he could have a big say in the finish here and looks the value play.

Getalead is also prominent in the betting and is chasing a hat-trick so should be thereabouts but he ran at Warwick on Wednesday so this is coming soon enough and he may well end up being a non runner in the morning. Thirtyfourstitches is a likeable sort who won well at Fontwell but this is tougher.
