Market Rasen 12.17

We start the day at Market Rasen with a horse we have been waiting to see over hurdles. SOCIALIST AGENDA is 3 from 3 in bumpers which is impressive under penalties the last twice. The form looks solid enough and he should be even better over hurdles. If he jumps well he should win this so it’s no surprise to see him sitting favourite in the betting.

Both of the main dangers have to step forward on what they have shown with Hazard Collonges finishing fifth on hurdles debut and Rocky Lake having his first run of the season. The latter has a bit more scope for improvement so could be the greater threat.

Market Rasen 12.52

I couldn’t believe the traders put World Trip in as short as 7/4 last night. I know she ran well when second at Perth on final start last season but a 11lb rise was always going to be harsh for that 13-length win and I think she is badly handicapped now off a mark of 96. I’m definitely opposing and I’m chancing CHOSEN SHANT. She does remain a maiden but she has some solid form to her name and going back up in trip should suit so I think she’ll go close.

Go Chique is the danger as she looked to need the run at Ascot and the extra yardage here will suit so she should go well. Misscarlett has been running well and also has to enter calculations in a weakish race.

Market Rasen 1.22

I thought Cillin Leonard gave NOTEBOOK a great ride to get up and win at Worcester last month. That was his first run for 208 days and he had enough ground to make up turning in but made relentless headway to stay on strongly and reel in the pacesetter Samtara. The pair came 10 lengths clear from the rest so it wasn’t a huge surprise to see him follow up off a 5lb higher mark at Sandown last time. I thought he beat a very good horse that day in Beauport so racing off the same mark here I think he’ll complete the hat-trick. Given the way he has hit the line on both his recent wins this step up in trip should be right up his street and I think it’ll take a good one to beat him.

Thunderstruck capped off last season with a strong staying display at Fontwell and has run creditably both starts since returning. With more to come he looks the most obvious danger.

Market Rasen 1.52

All the money has been for SAM BARTON overnight and I think he’s going to take a bit of beating here. He did well over hurdles but anything he achieved over timber was only going to be a bonus as he has the size and look of a chaser. I have to admit I did expect him to run a bit better at Ascot but it wasn’t a bad run and if he comes on from that he could be tough to beat here with cheekpieces applied. I think he has the most potential of these and I’m keen to keep him on side.

The Edgar Wallace was also progressive over hurdles actually chasing home the selection when second at Doncaster. He won his final start following a wind op at Uttoxeter and should also have a bright future in this sphere. Torigni is another to note and I think he’ll do well going forward but this looks a good race.

Market Rasen 2.22

It is good to see HERONORD back out again quickly after he unseated at Taunton a week ago. He slipped that day and unseated his rider when travelling noticeably best of all. He would have won or gone very close if not losing his rider and if his confidence is intact he will take some beating in this. I thought he’d be a bit shorter than the 11/8 on offer at the time of writing so that looks worth snapping up.

Lucky Robin is a bigger price than I thought he would be and may be dangerous back over fences with his last run over larger obstacles better than some of these have to offer in this race. Atlantic Storm should find this trip more suitable so is also noted.

Market Rasen 2.55

I really like the chances of PRESUMING ED here. That race at Sandown last time turned into a real gruelling test so I think he is better than the distance he was beaten. He went off a 125/1 chance so ran a lot better than the market thought he would. This is easier and with further improvement expected I think he can play a big hand here. He does need to learn to settle and it wouldn’t surprise me if Lee Edwards sent him forward in a bid to try and drop his head.

The Cincinnati Kid was plenty talented on the Flat but he hasn’t really taken to this discipline yet and I have my doubts. Matewan still has to prove himself over hurdles too. Infiniti wasn’t disgraced back from 5 months off when down the field at Chepstow and with fitness on side may well emerge as the danger.

Market Rasen 3.25

The finale as usual is a national hunt flat race at Market Rasen and SPRINGWELL BAY will take all the beating. He came second in a decent looking bumper in April before moving to Jonjo’s yard. The Willie Mullins winner hasn’t been seen since but Carnfunnock was a mightily impressive winner on Tuesday and he was nearly 10 lengths behind the selection.

Unless one of the newcomers is something above average the main danger is Urban Grit who ran a good second behind Call Of The Wind in May and if fully fit will go well in a race that doesn’t look that deep.
