Wetherby 12.45

Only a small field to kick things off at Wetherby but it does look a really competitive race. TROOPER TURNBULL gets a narrow vote after a good seasonal reappearance in a similar race. He should step forward for that run and is the one to beat. That form has been franked since with the winner Brelan D’As going in stylishly again since.

Away At Dawn is the main danger with recent form figures of 2122 and will be fully fit. The selection was picked ahead of him as he may be better handicapped with improvement to come on just his second run of the season.

Trooper Turnbull 6/4

Wetherby 1.15

Beaten just 3 lengths in the November Handicap behind Farhan on the Flat at the start of the month SKYCUTTER could be really tough to beat on hurdles debut here. He is a  good looking sort who remains open to further improvement and if he takes to this discipline he should be better than this field as it doesn’t look up to much. He is related to a smart hurdler in France so should make his mark in this sphere.

Tarseem represents a top yard and showed potential on debut at Huntingdon and hadn’t been asked for an effort when unseating 3 out there last time. He has more to come so looks the danger. Patient Dream is another newcomer to note but hard to get away from the fav.

Wetherby 1.45

This doesn’t look a strong race so I am taking a chance on BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH to bounce back from his seasonal reappearance where he pulled up at Cheltenham. He has now been dropped 3lb which gives him a decent chance on the pick of last seasons form. He may have just needed the run and if back to his best will go close here. He has been a bit uneasy in the betting but if back to form I can’t have him out the frame.

Archie Brown was last seen winning at Market Rasen in February which represented a step forward likely due to the cheekpieces being applied. He wears them again at Wetherby and if ready to roll he will be a danger to all. Oscar Robertson has been backed and he should enjoy going back up to 3 miles here.

Wetherby 2.20

This looks between the front pair in the betting and RORY AND ME is preferred for Micky Hammond. He won 2 from 3 in bumpers and has since run to a good level on the Flat. He does have experience over hurdles having found just the one too good over C&D a year ago. We haven’t seen him since but if building on that on his return (gone well fresh before) he could run a big race here in what looks a winnable contest.

East Street is definitely the danger. He is closely related to some decent types including recent winner Armattiekan. He placed on his second start in an Irish point and looks to have a future in this discipline so is feared most. Of the rest William Cody could go quite well but will need to better that Uttoxeter run.

Wetherby 2.50

This race looks pretty open with plenty of these in good form. SOME REIGN gets the vote over the favourite Darling Du Large. He came on plenty for his comeback run to win easily at Musselburgh last month. He may be 10 but that was one of his best runs for a while. He is only up 4lb and if repeating that run he will have a great chance despite how competitive this appears on paper.

Darling Du Large is chasing a hat-trick and has to be the main danger in the field. His winning margin was a bit less than his win before that after a mistake at the last and he gets a 6lb penalty. Cedar Hill has been well backed and should be fitter again with the drop back in trip likely to suit.

Some Reign 7/2

Fergal O’Brien continues to go from strength to strength and they usually do well in these types of races. The yard are operating at a near 30% strike rate in the past fortnight and so PEERLESS BEAUTY could take a bit of beating here. She showed definite promise when fifth at Aintree and just got caught a bit further back than ideal. She stayed on in good style and is expected to be a lot shaper today in what looks a much easier contest (went off 20/1 the last day).

Better Getaway is an eye-catcher for a top yard so should play a part. Eleanor Dumont is a half sister to 5 winners including Fransham and might also run well if forward enough on debut. Lassue won a point and is another one to note in a race that should throw up plenty of nice horses in time.
