Newbury 2.25 Fanion D’Estruval (5/2)
Shaped with plenty of promise running on strongly at the finish on return at Aintree last month in a race that has worked out notably well since; should be a lot sharper now and expected to take all the beating.
It’s quite a tricky days racing on Friday so I’ve decided to take a chance on FANION D’ESTRUVAL at Newbury. After losing his place at Aintree last month he rallied strongly and was staying on well again at the finish. He went down just 4 lengths at the line and given the form has been strongly franked since with the second chasing home Bravemansgame at Haydock and the third Midnight Shadow winning the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham he has obvious claims coming into this. Eritage and Colorado Doc should put good pace to the race and if he gets a good target to aim at I think that will suit rather than a tactical affair. Phoenix Way still has potential and looks the danger.

Chelmsford 5.15 Speycaster (3/1)
Good looking colt by Highland Reel; left his debut run miles behind when beaten only narrowly at a big price at Bath in September; sure to have improved since and looks to have found a good opportunity to open his account.
We head to the AW for our second best bet of the day and SPEYCASTER looks to have a great chance. He caught the eye running on strongly for third at Bath in September having been outpaced and with that under his belt he is likely to improve again. He could be a nice colt in the making and I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t go close here. Western Writer makes his debut for Charlie Appleby so has to be feared. I wouldn’t want to see too much support for him in the market. Ulysses colt Anatomic made the breakthrough at Wolverhampton last time and if he improves again he could emerge as the main danger to the favourite. Army General has first-time cheekpieces and also warrants respect.
