Haydock 12.40

Not a bad race to kick off the card at Haydock on Wednesday and there are plenty with chances. The one they all have to beat though is O’HANRAHAN BRIDGE who went close at Southwell last week. He is off the same mark but has 2lb more due to Theo Gillard only claiming 3 instead of 5. If he runs to the same level of form as that run he should take all the beating so it’s no surprise to see him prominent in the betting.

There are plenty of dangers with the main one being Macho Mover who like the selection went close last time and will be suited by this longer trip. Of the rest Seymour Sox and Niceandeasy could be on decent marks and be in the mix in a competitive race.

Haydock 1.15

This looks between the top 2 in the betting and I’m keen to side with ANOTHER BROWN BEAR for Nicky Henderson. This point winner needed the experience when down the field on debut at Uttoxeter but took a big step in the right direction when runner-up at Ludlow. The winner Current Mood had won her previous start by 14 lengths and she wasn’t disgraced in a good race at Cheltenham last month.

That looks the form to follow but saying that Dedanser will still be a danger. He finished third behind Harper’s Brook and Famous Bridge and that looked a decent novice hurdle so he should make a race of it. Readysteadybeau best of the rest but has enough to find albeit the step up in trip should suit him.

Haydock 1.50

This race may only have 4 runners but it is an intriguing one with 3 of them rated 137 with Burrows Edge slightly inferior at 132. COCONUT SPLASH gets the vote based on the consistency of his form. He has gone well in all of his runs over fences including a second behind Chantry House and if in the same form he will be hard to beat. He shaped to me as though he’d come on plenty from that Exeter run and if he does he is a danger to all.

Kiltealy Briggs is the main danger as he isn’t far behind on form but may have a little less to come as the selection might come on fitness-wise as mentioned. We don’t know what to expect from Burrows Edge after a 630-day layoff but you have to respect the yard and keep an eye on any money coming for him. Mint Condition will have to bounce back after a poor run over hurdles on his comeback run but may have needed it.

Haydock 2.20

It’s hard to pick holes in A Different Kind seeing as he has won every start for Donald McCain. He won by 15 lengths at Sedgefield last time but didn’t beat much. This is tougher albeit just 2 rivals and I think there might be value in GREEN BOOK for Venetia Williams. She has her horses going great guns (near 40% strike rate in the past fortnight) and this horse strikes me as an improver. He showed promise when second to Herbiers on only start over hurdles at Hereford and he should serve it up to the favourite.

Mind Sunday is the outsider of the 3 but saying that she isn’t much of a longshot as she shaped well on hurdles debut at Exeter last time and can also step forward from that. There is potential for all 3 of these to be fairly decent types so not a bad race despite the lack of numbers.

Green Book 13/8

Haydock 2.50

This looks like your typical veteran chase where it is tough to know who will run their race. AMI DESBOIS was last seen in the Grand National where he fell at the 15th. Back down to this level and over slightly easier obstacles I think his price may be a tad too big at the time of writing. He goes well fresh and is far more consistent than most of these and will go well so gets the vote.

Aso was pitched in at the top level last season and was rated as high as 158 at one point. He goes off 147 today and could bounce back from his seasonal reappearance off of a really lenient mark and is a danger to all. Lake View Lad also has to enter calculations and will likely have his supporters.

Haydock 3.20

Goobinator is a short priced fav here and while he has to be respected I’m not completely sold on him especially after falling at Bangor last time. He clearly has an engine but he is priced up as though he won that race last time for me. I’m going to take a chance on THEME TUNE for Jonjo O’Neill. I’m surprise he is a double-figure price as he overcame inexperience to win at Ludlow and Carlisle before his jumping let him down on handicap debut at Uttoxeter. Given time since he can get back on track here (goes well fresh) and he is too big a price to leave alone.

Osprey Call was still travelling well when coming down on return and if none the worse from that he might get involved here. Enemy Coast Ahead is also open to improvement with Olly Murphy in top form so also has to enter calculations. Homme Public has been backed and will appreciate going back up in trip following a wind op.
