Ludlow 12.30

Tough race to kick off with the majority of the field in with a shout. I do like the chances of OVERHAUGH STREET though even given the slight drift this morning. He was a decent animal on the Flat and made an encouraging start over hurdles when third at Hereford. He was beaten a long way but the winner is a useful yardstick and he should have learned from that. This is easier and I think he’ll run a big race under David Bass. He can pull hard so if he settles that will definitely help him see out the race.

Liberty Power has been the one for money but was pulled up at Fontwell in October so does have enough to prove on the balance. Gerrison Commander has the experience in the book and didn’t run badly last time so might be a greater danger. Whitlock also has form claims but needs to better that run last time to land a telling blow here.

Ludlow 1.00

Wide open handicap chase with plenty of these likely to improve a fair bit over fences. I like the chances of ON THE PLATFORM who is improving with every run. He ran a cracker over fences in October to finish second after a break and he should improve plenty for that run. I think he can go on to be rated a lot higher and is overpriced in this race. He is turning into the gamble of the race which is also reassuring.

Haldon Hill is the favourite at the time of writing but I am not sure he has the potential of some of the others based on current form. After his run in October Jobesgreen Lad could be the main danger if repeating that form. Ambion Hill has caught my eye a few times in the past but I’m happy to just watch him again for now.

Ludlow 1.30

Paul Nicholls had a great weekend and he has a good chance of a winner at Ludlow on Monday to start a new week. NOTEBOOK won 2 of her last 4 over hurdles last season and was an eye-catcher on return when second at Wetherby in October. That was a strong race and while she couldn’t match the easy winner Molly Ollys Wishes she did herself pull 2 and a quarter lengths clear from Marie’s Rock with the rest of the field well strung out. She will come on for that and back into handicap company she is going to take a fair bit of stopping. She has already won over this C&D and with See The Sea likely to give her a good target to aim at I can see this panning out perfectly for her.

Voice Of Calm looks the danger as she also ran well when a close-up second at Fakenham on return and with more to offer can put up the most resistance.

Ludlow 2.00

This looks a decent race with plenty of these crossing paths plenty including SWITCH HITTER who beat Outonpatrol by a length at Hereford last month. He is up 2lb for that but he looked good for a bit more at the finish. That was his seasonal debut so he should be better than that performance on fitness alone. He is the one to beat and I’m surprised he is available to back at 11/4 against these.

Outonpatrol is the danger getting the 2lb swing at the weights but he had the fitness edge last time so will require an improved performance to reverse the result. Forgot To Ask is the other one who could go very well on his best form so of those at the bigger prices he would make most appeal.

Ludlow 2.30

I remember Son Of Camas winning at Newbury where he beat King Roland and that was a really promising performance but let’s be honest he hasn’t exactly gone on since. I know he shaped a bit better than recent starts when fourth to Minella Trump last time but I’m still struggling to warm to him and I think he’s one of those horses that will continue to be expensive to follow. I much prefer GOLDEN TAIPAN and I’m pleasantly surprised we can still get 2/1 about his chances.

He was impressive over C&D on penultimate start and wasn’t seen to best effect last time. He still remains in cracking form and a big run beckons again here. I can actually see Wild Max emerging as the main danger.

Ludlow 3.00

This doesn’t look a deep race and so is a good opportunity for NELSONS ROCK to make it two wins in-a-row since going handicapping. He won on handicap debut and looks unexposed over this trip so the 4lb rise should be more than in his grasp in what is a weak race and should take some beating.

The main danger looks to be Cheer’s Delboy who ran well over 2 miles two weeks ago and was dropped 1lb after that. I am not sure if he can beat the selection on his last run but I expect him to be running on for a place. Canastero comes here in winning form and up just 3lb should also be in the mix.

Ludlow 3.30

I try not to have strong opinions in bumpers as they are so competitive but a tentative vote goes to HYLAND for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. He cost €24,000 and is bred to be pretty useful. The yard obviously do well in these races and the fact he is trading fairly prominent in the market he looks sure to have a big say in the finish if ready to roll on debut.

Fancy Stuff cost £80,000 after winning a point and she also could have a bright future so I expect the pair to fight this one out. Charming Getaway has been a bit of a market mover this morning for Kim Bailey and he could also be a nice type in the making so trackers at the ready in the lucky last.
