Hexham 12.20

A tough race to kick off the card at Hexham on Wednesday and I’ve decided to play one at a price in FOLKS LIKE US for Ewan Whillans. This horse remains fairly lightly raced for his age and was off the mark at Kelso last season off a 1lb lower mark. He didn’t shape badly when fourth to Frau Georgia on chase debut at Perth when last seen back in September. Back over timber now I can see him running a big race. There’s a fair bit of pace on and he will be ridden quietly so hopefully picks a few of these off in the closing stages.

Shoughall’s Boy deserves to be favourite I think. He improved to win over C&D on return 3 weeks ago and a 3lb rise could be lenient if he builds on that. Stoney Rover also deserves a mention as he is likely to strip a lot fitter here. Sophie Olivia was disappointing on return but should do better here.

This doesn’t look a great handicap chase with not many of these looking obviously well handicapped. DEEP CHARM ran well at Kelso to finish second after a break and should improve for the run. He is pretty unexposed for a 7 year old and there could be plenty more to come at this trip. He runs off the same mark where he was beaten 4 lengths back from a 172-day absence so with improvement will definitely get involved.

Flaming Glory is the danger if coming on for the run and the wind-op might be seen to full effect here. Cudgel was in great form when last seen but has to prove his fitness. I’ll be surprised if any of the others land a telling blow as they all have enough to prove.

This looks a great chance for AAZZA to make it 2 from 2 over hurdles. She showed a real likeable attitude to prevail on hurdles debut over C&D last month and with improvement to come she is going to take a lot of beating in a very winnable race. It’s no surprise to see her trading as a short priced fav at the time of writing as I’ll be surprised if she is beaten. She is expected to push forward and might even try and make all.

Fist Pumping Time looks to have a future over hurdles but lacks experience. This is weak but she still has enough to do to try and beat the favourite. Midnight Legacy is hard to recommend on what we’ve seen but she is another one that can step forward at some point.

Plenty of these prefer quicker ground than the forecast heavy ground we are due to get on Wednesday. GRAYSTOWN has some of his best form in softer conditions including his win in October on soft ground. He is up 3lb for the win but may have more to come. He has won over course and distance and has the least questions to answer in this field.

Shaka The King is the danger if fully fit. He kept some good company over hurdles and I expect him to be rated a fair bit higher in the future. Of the rest Muroor could thrive in conditions and outrun his odds.

Hexham 2.20

The money came for FEIVEL on debut for Dr Richard Newland at Uttoxeter last month and he was in the process of running a good race before taking a dramatic tumble at the last flight. If none the worse connections look to have found a good opportunity for him to gain compensation as this is easier. He had jumped well up until that point so I’m happy to forgive him that blip for now.

The danger is probably Charm Offensive who is improving with experience and was a good second at Ayr when last seen. If ready to roll on return she should make her presence felt at the business end. Del La Mar Rocket also brings potential to the table.

Hexham 2.50

Ettila De Sivola did look the one to beat for this race after a very good run at Kelso on his seasonal reappearance. My only doubt was whether he was at his best on this ground so have gone with an each way play on LLANTARA. She goes well on the forecast conditions and is more than capable off this mark as she showed at Ffos Las last season. If she is near her best I expect her to run a big race.

Ettilla De Sivola is the danger along with course and distance winner Southeast Rose who will step forward for the run here in November and might be able to make the drop in weight count.

Hexham 3.20

Testing ground is just what ESPOIR MORIVIERE needs so if he sharpens up from that reappearance third over C&D last month he is going to be a danger to all here. He is down 2lb and looks to have tons in favour. When he is good he is quite a smart horse and I don’t think they’ll be any excuses here. I did think he’d be a bit bigger than 4/1 but it’s not a bad price and even at the time of writing he is proving popular so could go off well backed.

Flames Of Passion was well held on handicap debut back from a break at Exeter and needs the cheekpieces to spark her into life to have a say here. Askgarmor was a good second at Ayr on return and with fitness on side could also run a nice race.
