Wincanton 12.30

Huflower did shape as though he needed the run on return at Exeter and that was his debut over hurdles too so he should improve but he is way too short in my book. This is more competitive than the betting is suggesting and I’m going to take a chance on BRAVEHEART for Jamie Snowden. The yard are going great guns with a near 30% strike rate in the past fortnight and this son of Westerner looked as though he’d improve for that runner-up effort at Taunton. He should lead and may well end up stringing these out.

Holly ran in a good maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter back in October but she was beaten nearly 15 lengths so she is going to need to step forward a fair bit to land a blow here. Natty Night is also worth keeping an eye on in the betting as he could be a threat if taking to hurdles.

With only the 6 runners and a few that have questions to answer this looks STRIKING A POSE’s to lose. He won nicely at Exeter last month after being out of his depth in graded races. Back at this level he has plenty to offer and a 4lb penalty doesn’t seem a enough to stop him in a weaker race like this. The yard have quietened down a bit in the last couple of weeks but they are still going well enough for this horse to run a big race here.

The main danger looks to be Kakamora who could still be well handicapped and will be in the mix if fully fit after a break. Of the rest Our Power could improve after a good comeback run but needs more to beat the selection. Atholl Street has already proved frustrating and needs to do better.

This is another case of us having two trackers in the same race but I’m confident NOTEBOOK is the one to side with. Earth Company is the other one in here and he did look impressive strolling clear to win at Taunton but the selection is unbeaten over hurdles making it 2-2 at Doncaster in good style. With more to come he gets the vote to bring up the four-timer. He made all the last day and always looked to be coming home in front. This asks more pitched into handicap company now but I’ll be surprised if he isn’t better than an opening mark of 126.

It’s not just between the front pair as Oakley also has potential but he will definitely need to better that Cheltenham run where he went out like a light. He has been given time since and is off a reduced mark so that’s why he is figuring fairly prominently in the betting.

Plenty of runners taking their chance in this but I have it between RAINYDAY WOMAN and Norton Hill who both won last time out. Raindyday Woman clearly improved for stepping up in trip and she looked like she has plenty in the tank winning as she liked. The form she has in the book would be good enough to beat most of these unless Norton Hill improves a lot for hurdling which I’d only be concerned about if the market spoke really strongly.

Norton Hill won his national hunt flat race by a neck last month with the figures from the race looking pretty good. No doubt he will have plenty of improvement to come with experience but the form of the selection means he will need to be pretty smart to win on Tuesday.

I thought all 3 at the top of the betting had something or other to prove and that makes IRON MIKE a good bet at bigger odds here. He did well over hurdles and shaped with potential when fourth on chase debut over C&D last month. He has since changed hands and with further improvement on the cards off a 2lb lower mark I think he can get competitive at the business end. He will always need an element of luck given his patient style but if he jumps better here he is definitely handicapped to have a say.

Young O’Leary would just about head the dangers having gone close over hurdles at Taunton last month. He will strip fitter from that and does at least already have a win to his name over fences. White Moon is well treated but he would by no means be one for maximum faith and I can see him disappointing again. Jack Valentine is expensive to follow but the yard are going well.

This looks a wide open race with nothing looking really well handicapped. I will take a chance on TASHUNKA each way as she travelled so well into the race at Exeter last time but didn’t quite see it out. She drops down in trip here and it could be perfect for her. She was dropped 1lb for finishing fourth last time and should go well here. Even at the time of writing she is being really well backed so it wouldn’t surprise me if it turned into a bit of a gamble come post time.

Merry Mistress is the danger after running out a 5 length winner at Hereford last month. She has been put up 7lb for that which I think could be a bit steep. Of the rest Jaunty Soria could run well at an each way price based on her last run.

Wincanton 3.30

Tricky race to close the card and I’m going to put forward BOMBER’S MOON to finally shed the maiden-tag here. He caught the eye going close over hurdles at Hereford on penultimate start and while he didn’t back that up here last time he was held up in a race it was tough to make ground up in. He is down 2lb for that and has 10lb claimer Finn Lambert booked for the ride which can help so he should have every chance. Hopefully he isn’t given too much to do this time.

Abbey Street got his head in front at Plumpton and is only up 3lb so looks the danger. Shanroe Smooch did run better than he has been last time but needs more. Black Centaur may be the value angle but needs to put in a clean round.
