Some promising hurdlers lining up for the opener at Exeter and I’m keen to side with SWINCOMBE FLEAT for Anthony Honeyball. This mare by Yeats looked a decent prospect winning a bumper at Fontwell at the start of the year. She ran well enough on her hurdling debut here last time to suggest she is capable of winning this. She was beaten a fair distance but kept on and will strip a lot fitter now so has plenty going for her.
Marmalaid lacks experience but is certainly bred to be pretty smart (half-sister to Katchit). It wouldn’t surprise me if she turned out to be the biggest danger to the selection. Lassue is another one who could take nicely to hurdles so any market support would be noted.
Exeter 12.30
This looks a fairly open race with plenty with potential in here. GREAT OCEAN is a bigger price than I expected on his second run over hurdles. His run behind Lydford looks good form and he should improve for his hurdles debut and I think he should be nearer the same price as the favourite.
The fav Horn Cape ran well in national hunt flat races over shorter trips before being out of his depth in a Listed national hunt flat race over 2 miles. He is likely a talented horse but I prefer the selection with fitness and experience on this occasion. The other I think could improve back down in trip could be Gris Gris Top.

I liked the way GUERNESEY won over C&D in September and he has done nothing wrong since looking a bit unlucky not to have tasted victory again. He was denied by a bob of the heads at Warwick and then bumped into An Tailliur at Taunton before finding a well handicapped horse too good last time. He is still improving I think and off the same mark looks to have a great chance of making it 2-2 over C&D.
Deeper Blue is unexposed and bumped into the promising Stage Star at Chepstow. With more to come he could easily be the danger. Investment Manager ran right up to form last time and also has to enter calculations.
Exeter 1.40
The maximum runners likely to line up for this and it is as competitive as it sounds. HUNTSMANS JOG looks a good each way price with a couple of very good runs around this current mark. He has won at Exeter previously and looks a fair price in what is a seriously deep race.
Arian is interesting up at this trip as it could bring out a bit more improvement and he could run a big race. The other danger could be Faustinovick if fully fit as he was in-form when last seen in March and has since had a wind op. At a monster price Lamanver Pippin has enough to prove but might sneak a place.
Exeter 2.15
I’m surprised MASKADA is as short as she is here but I’m still putting her forward as the selection. She shaped with promise on chase debut at Uttoxeter and then finished second to The Glancing Queen at Bangor and that horse has looked a smashing prospect since switched to this sphere. If she builds on that again she should cause these problems and does look the most likely winner.
Pure Bliss made it 2-2 over hurdles here this time last year and was back to winning ways on handicap bow at Punchestown. She could go well on chase debut but a lack of experience swayed my vote towards the fav. Galice Macalo has a bit to prove but she also definitely has a chance.
Exeter 2.45
This doesn’t look the best race and I think it is worth taking a chance on CASPERS COURT coming back down in trip. He has been dropped a further pound for his last run and is starting to show signs he may be ready to take advantage of this lower mark. He has ran well at Taunton on his last two runs and I expect him to go well here.
Tip Top Mountain is the danger after winning at Uttoxeter last month. He has only been raised 4lb for that which won’t leave him far away. Allardyce is on a lengthy losing run but could also go well down in grade.
Exeter 3.15
I don’t think WORLD TRIP is the most straightforward but he certainly caught the eye at Market Rasen last month without getting competitive. He looked one of the first beaten on that occasion and just made too many mistakes but did keep on and looked as though he’d come on for the run. His form towards the end of last season was progressive so if he can put that latest effort behind him he could run a big race here.
Getaway Cory has been backed for this and he was still running well over C&D before coming down. If that hasn’t knocked his confidence he could be the danger and there has been money for him so certainly one to note. Sienna Royale also has to be noted with cheekpieces back on.
