This looks like a very weak novice hurdle and MAYHEM MYA has likely found a great opportunity to open her account over hurdles. She has great form in national hunt flat races and ran well on her hurdles debut. She is back down to 2 miles for this race which should suit and is clearly the one to beat. She is short enough in the betting but we have included her in our Mega Acca today (check Twitter).
Roman Knows is the main danger based on his last run in a national hunt flat race and could be dangerous on his hurdles debut. Of the rest Twilight Glory is one to keep an eye on running under Rules for the first time. Pilgrims King shaped with promise in bumpers but has failed to fire over hurdles but it is still early days so might shape better here.

This is one of the more open races of the day but I do like the chances of KENYAN COWBOY for Neil King. He clearly likes this track having won here in November and he put that disappointing sixth behind him when back to form behind Kazontherazz at Uttoxeter last time. He goes back up in trip again and off the same mark can definitely get competitive. He finds plenty for pressure so hopefully Max Kendrick won’t have him too far off the speed.
Quite a few dangers probably headed by Red Lion Lad. He has proved a bit frustrating but it’s interesting to see him back over hurdles after two poor runs over fences, unseating last time. He could still be improving and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get competitive here. Delgany Monarch has shown bits and pieces of promise and the handicapper has helped him again dropping him 3lb so he could run well too.

Another race that looks to be fairly open with 3 or 4 with solid chances. I quite like HAURAKI GULF on his hurdles debut after he won on his Rules debut in a national hunt flat race. He likely has plenty to come and won’t have to improve much on here to go close. He is certainly bred to improve now tackling obstacles and should also appreciate going up in trip here. He was backed at big prices on debut so it will be interesting to see if the money comes again as 8/1 seems quite generous at the time of writing.
Buck’s Boggle has solid form without getting his head in front, placing on all of his starts so far. He will be a danger to all if improving from his hurdles debut over course and distance last month. One For The Wall and and Monbeg Lane could be best of the rest. The latter cost €88,000 and is well related so while he might need the outing he could be one to be interested in going forward.

The likeable FRENCHY DU LARGE always looked a chaser in the making so it was all the more encouraging to see him get his head in front on final start over hurdles at Ludlow. Things didn’t go to plan on chase debut at Carlisle but that was just a blip and he was quickly back on track winning impressively at Uttoxeter last month. He is a big horse with plenty of scope so he should keep on improving for a while yet.
The handicapper has noticed that too raising him 9lb for that 5-length win but that shouldn’t be enough to anchor him and he is strongly fancied to follow up. Eden Du Houx showed the benefit of a wind op to win at Ffos Las and looks the obvious danger if building on that run.
Chepstow 2.35
Just the 5 runners go to post for this handicap and a few of these need to prove themselves after recent blips in form. WEST TO THE BRIDGE looks like he is close to his best again now back down to a workable mark. His run at Exeter suggests he could go close in a race like this and I fancy his chances. He is 11lb below his last winning mark so really should be showing his form again sooner rather than later.
Bellatrixsa is the main danger if in the same form as she was in the middle of last year. Her novice hurdle form would be good enough in a weak race to be really competitive but she has her fitness to prove. Nordano ran well when denied a length at Leicester but failed to back that up at Ascot and also has a bit to prove.

I thought Eleanor Bob would run better than she did last time so she isn’t in good enough form at the moment to win this even if she is down another 2lb. She jumped poorly at Ffos Las so needs to leave that run well behind. I much prefer the chances of NOTEBOOK for Christian Williams. She won for the third time over fences at Fakenham at the start of the month and if she turns up in that sort of form here she is going to take all the beating again. She is up 8lb but deservedly so and I can see her travelling strongly before staying on best. She remains lightly raced and her jumping can still improve so there is good reason to think better is yet to come.
If Eleanor Bob fluffs her lines then Leverock Lass could be the one to give the selection most to think about. She needs to jump slicker though and did finish a tired horse last time so has enough to find on the balance.

This doesn’t look a strong race with the 11 year old Breizh Alko the favourite at the time of writing. He has only ran once in over 2 years which was an okay run at Lingfield over fences. He is now back over hurdles where he would be well handicapped on his old form but it is hard to be bullish until he shows what level he is now at. He is around 15/8 at the time of writing and that’s short enough for me to oppose.
I am going to take a chance on TRUE THOUGHTS who is sliding down the handicap and appeals at a good each way price. His last two runs suggest he isn’t far away from going close and this looks the race to do it in without much depth up against him. Hopefully the market speaks favourably as that would only back up my opinion further. Of the rest Advantura could do better handicapping over further so is also worth a second look.
Chepstow 4.15
It’s usually a bumper to cap off the card but we have a fiercely competitive handicap hurdle this time around. I’ve taken two against the field as it’s as tough as they come. PUZZLE CACHE showed a good attitude to get on top close home at Exeter and that was a likeable effort. She is only up 4lb so if she can back that up that would definitely see her involved. She does lack consistency though so I’ve had to back another one in the race at a slightly bigger price too.
VIANS HILL hasn’t pulled down any trees in three starts to date but he has the sort of profile that could leave them runs behind now upped in trip for handicap debut. There has been a bit of money at the time of writing and this yard usually know the time of day so in an open race he could run a big race. After The Fox should appreciate the drop back in trip and looks one of the dangers and at a bigger price Amlovi could also get in the mix.
