This might not take a great deal of winning so IF NOT FOR DYLAN looks a standout. He left previous form behind to win gamely at Ayr last time with the front pair some 13 lengths clear from the rest. He is only up 5lb from that to a mark of 108 (previously rated as high as 117) and should still be able to take advantage. He tries 3 miles over fences for the first time so if he gets the trip he really should be winning this.
Just A Whim could be the biggest danger if bouncing back from a poor run at Fontwell last time. The ground shouldn’t be as testing as that day and she could easily outrun her odds in a weak race. Bring The Action also deserves a mention but needs to jump a lot better.

After a couple of spins over hurdles GRAYSTONE ran out an impressive winner at Warwick last month, drawing clear by 7 lengths staying on strongly to the line. I’m pretty sure he was in the process of following up at Taunton before coming down at the last. I know the form has taken a bit of a knock since with Irish Hill running so poorly at Ascot but he would have beaten that horse comfortably. He can improve again and gets the vote.
Hard to pinpoint an exact danger but perhaps it might be Message Personnel for Dan Skelton. He was snapped up after winning in France and wasn’t disgraced when midfield in a good race at Cheltenham last month. With more to come he should run well.
Wetherby 1.45
There are plenty of lightly raced sorts in here who could improve but it was hard not to be impressed by ROCK OF STAR’s improvement on handicap debut last time. He still looked like he was learning but won nicely in the end. The 7lb penalty shouldn’t be enough to stop him running a big race again over a trip that looks to suit him well. I thought he’d be a bit shorter than 5/2 so I expect him to end up well backed in the betting.
Son Of The Somme is the danger losing out by the finest of margins on his first 2 runs in handicaps. He is up in weight but will be on the scene here. Walk In My Shoes has similar potential on her handicap debut and I would keep an eye on her in the betting.
Wetherby 2.15
With Venetia Williams going so well at the moment REALM KEEPER looks to have a major chance here. He looked a horse on the up winning at Fontwell and Carlisle last season before failing to give his running at Aintree. He has been put away since and has undergone wind surgery and down 3lb since that last run a mark of 128 could easily underestimate him. He will likely push forward and could take plenty of reeling in.
The danger could be Buster Valentine who bounced back to form when second over C&D last time. He is off a good mark but needs to prove he can back that up now. The Paddy Pie is on a long losing run but the drop back in trip will suit so that brings him into it too.

This looks to be a good novice event with a few previous winners in here and some with a fair bit of potential. LUPUS REGEM has won both of the races he has finished after really not getting on with the track at Uttoxeter where he ran out. He got back in the winners enclosure last time and he has shown he goes well here already and is the one to beat. Olly Murphy remains in good form which has to be another positive.
Risk D’Argent like the selection has to carry a penalty for a win but I just feel he doesn’t have as much scope for improvement as him. The one who hasn’t won yet but looks to have serious potential is Limetree Boy who could be a big danger.
Wetherby 3.15
The unbeaten SHOLOKJACK can keep his unblemished record in-tact at Wetherby on Thursday. He won his sole start in Irish points and had no problem making a winning start under Rules in a Leicester maiden hurdle 6 weeks ago. He was well backed that day and travelled strongly into the race before always doing enough. He is open to plenty of improvement and looks up to defying a penalty against these.
The main danger looks to be Rossbeigh Strand who left his bumper form behind to finish an excellent second at Chepstow on debut over hurdles. That’s reasonable form so with further improvement likely he should give the fav something to think about at least.
Wetherby 3.45
In an open race I am happy to take an each way chance on WHEESHT to go close over fences. She ran well on her seasonal reappearance before finishing second at Huntingdon last time. The ground should be more to her liking this time and I think she will go very well here. If you look at her profile she remains unexposed so I think there is good reason to expect an improved display here in a winnable race.
Spot On Soph is in great form but I am not sure if she has much wiggle room in her handicap mark but rates the danger still in her current form. Maid O’Malley is also likely to be on the premises so also has to be respected.
Wetherby 4.17
Malinas Island won convincingly at Lingfield in November and ran a creditable race in defeat turned out quickly at Market Rasen last time. He should run well but there isn’t much juice in his price so I’m going to stick with last time out winner BIRD ON THE WIRE for Donald McCain. He looked to relish the longer trip when opening his account at Doncaster and can run another big race up just 5lb from that.
Ribeye was second to the selection last time and is likely to run his race again but definitely looks vulnerable from a win point of view. Dragon Springs has a tongue-strap on now and can still improve so also enters the reckoning for a place at least.
