Leopardstown 1.20

The way GALOPIN DES CHAMPS won on chase debut was mightily impressive. He travelled and jumped for fun and came clear by some 22 lengths at the line without breaking a sweat. Now that was just a Beginners Chase and this will be tougher stepping into novice company but he looks an exciting horse and I think connections will be hopeful he can follow up here before being targeted at Cheltenham next month.

The danger looks to be Capodanno who I’m surprised isn’t second fav after chasing home Bob Olinger at Punchestown. That was just his second start over fences and he can still improve so he might be value in the without market. Master McShee showed a good attitude to prevail narrowly last time but this is tougher again.

Musselburgh 1.32

This doesn’t look the best renewal of the Scottish Triumph Hurdle and IMPULSIVE ONE looks to have a great chance. His form in the Summit Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster looks rock solid and if he can repeat that it would take a big improvement from one of the others to beat him. He went down just a length and the winner was making it four in a row and the second Porticello has won impressively since to frank the form.

The danger could be Inca Prince who has really stepped forward on his last couple of runs winning two lesser races easily, including a course and distance win last month. Calvados was thrashed by Fil Dor in a Grade 2 at Leopardstown and will obviously find this easier so may well feature at the business end as well.

Leopardstown 1.50

Willie Mullins has won all four renewals of this race with Min and CHACUN POUR SOI and the latter should be the one to beat if bouncing back. He failed to fire finishing last in the Tingle Creek at Sandown but back on home soil at a track we know he loves I think he’ll take a lot of pegging back under Paul Townend. He is still lightly raced and with form figures of 2111 at this track it is hard to find a chink in his armour.

Greaneteen was the beneficiary in the Tingle Creek when the selection disappointed and it’s interesting Nicholls sends him for this race but this will be a different ballgame and he is going to need to be even better than what he has shown to win this. I actually think Captain Guinness will chase the fav home as he wasn’t seen to best effect last time.

Musselburgh 2.05

Not a bad looking renewal with plenty of these in with a good chance. SINCE DAY ONE gets the vote after making it 3 wins in 3 hurdles starts in easy fashion at Newcastle last month. He looks like he still has plenty to come and can give last years winning trainer another great chance here. He is available to back at 5/2 at the time of writing but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was vying for favouritism come post time on Sunday.

Restandbethankful is the main danger on the strength of his handicap win last time at Huntingdon. He has been a tad inconsistent and that is why he has been passed over on this occasion. In such a competitive race even the outsider of the field Corrigeen Rock could improve to be involved for Lucinda Russell.

Leopardstown 2.25

A wide open renewal as expected but I really like the chances of BIRCHDALE for Enda Bolger. This horse failed to reach the heights he had initially promised for Nicky Henderson but shaped quite well when sixth here in the Paddy Power Chase last time. The trip just looked to stretch his stamina so back to 2m5f here should suit and off the same mark he should have a big chance of getting involved.

Given the nature of the race I’m also going to have an each way saver on THE SHUNTER who hasn’t been seen since finishing fourth in the Galway Plate. That was a likeable run and he still has more to give and appeals at 9/1. Blackbow will be a danger to all if his jumping holds up and other dangers include Max Flamingo and Fakir D’alene.

Musselburgh 2.40

As with all the Pertemps qualifiers they are all hotly contested and as a result I am going to have two in here. WAKOOL is fighting it out for favouritism after a hat-trick of handicap wins including two over course and distance. He is up 9lb for that but is still improving and will have his say here. He would have to be my main selection in the race and 7/2 at the time of writing looks a fair price.

At bigger odds COASTAL WORLD is pretty unexposed in handicaps and over this trip and has showed glimpses of being better than his mark. The main danger is Brorson who is edging favouritism after two wide-margin wins and probably has more to come at this trip despite the 13lb rise at the weights.

Leopardstown 3.00

Unbeaten mare HONEYSUCKLE is going for a hat-trick of wins in the race and is impossible to oppose for obvious reasons. She is yet to taste defeat and thrashed Abacadabras 10 lengths in this last year. She has answered everything that has been asked for her and while I don’t think this is an absolute given as both Zanahiyr and Saint Roe are smart horses she should just have too much in the closing stages.

If I was forced to pick a danger then I would put forward Zanahiyr as he hasn’t done a lot wrong and has bumped into Sharjah the last twice, pushing him close last time. Saint Roi was nearly 5 lengths behind Zanahiyr the last day so the betting looks to have this spot on. Echoes In Rain has ground to make up and needs to settle if she is to improve.

Musselburgh 3.15

This looks a fairly weak race as SARASOTA STAR is likely the one to beat. He doesn’t necessarily have that much in hand but he is ultimately very consistent. His latest chase form reads two seconds and a win and I can’t see him being far away here. His jumping can be spectacular when he gets into a rhythm so if the signs are good early on in the race then he is going to have a massive chance.

Nero Rock is my idea of the main danger after a much improved run in a handicap last time behind Thyme White and he could step forward. Fanzio was well held at Kempton but should run better than that here and if he does that would bring him into it. Cedar Hill needs to bounce back but is also worth a mention.

Leopardstown 3.35

I thought SIR GERHARD ran out an impressive winner on hurdles debut over C&D and while I know he was entitled to win he couldn’t really have done it any easier and given his jumping is likely to improve after that initial effort he looks to have found a great opportunity to make it a perfect 2-2. It will be interesting to see if Townend tries to go forward as it might help if My Mate Mozzie gives him a nice toe in.

The latter is probably the danger but then he did see his winning run come to an end last time to Statuaire who reopposes. I don’t think there is a lot between the pair again but hopefully Sir Gerhard is in front of both of them. Three Stripe Life bumped into Mighty Potter and also has to be feared in a decent renewal.
