NAP – Best selection of the evening

Sandown 2.20 L’Homme Presse (5/6)

Progressive young chaser who powered away from his rivals to make it a perfect 3-3 in this sphere at Cheltenham last month; remains open to further improvement so while this is tougher looks one to keep firmly on side.

Can’t wait to see L’HOMME PRESSE in the Scilly Isles at Sandown on Saturday. This race has been won by some nice horses down the years and Venetia Williams looks to have a potential star on her hands here. He has relished the switch to chasing making it 3-3 at Cheltenham last time. This obviously requires another step up into Grade 1 company now but he is definitely open to further progression and I think he can improve past the standard-setter Pic D’Orhy. The latter has won 2 of his last 3 and was convincing at Ascot so should test the selection but might just lack a gear change in the finish. Mister Coffey hasn’t done a lot wrong either but lacks the potential the fav brings to the table.

Sandown 2.20 L’Homme Presse (5/6)

Leopardstown 1.35 Fil Dor (6/4)

Improving fast judging by the way he put distance between himself and rivals over C&D last time; almost certainly has more to come yet and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t remain unbeaten here; potentially exciting.

Gordon Elliott certainly looks to hold all the aces in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival next month. He has the first two in the betting in Pied Piper and FIL DOR. The latter has been very impressive so far and ran out a convincing winner over C&D last time. He really hit the line strong and if he goes through the gears like that again here he should always be holding Vauban. The latter is interesting as his form ties in with a stablemate to the selection Pied Piper who backed that up winning so impressively at Cheltenham last weekend. He only went down half a length and can improve but my gut feeling is the fav could be a bit of a freak and can hopefully make it a perfect 4-4.
