NAP – Best selection of the evening
Musselburgh 2.45 River Walk (2/1)
Improving sort who showed a professional attitude to make a winning start in a bumper at Catterick; impressed following up on hurdles debut over C&D; bumped into a useful horse latest; definitely more to come handicapping.
A mark of 111 looks to underestimate handicap debutant RIVER WALK at Musselburgh on Sunday afternoon. This son of Scorpion has won 2 of his first 3 starts and wasn’t disgraced when runner-up at Catterick last time. He bumped into It’s Good To Laugh who looks to be on an upward trajectory himself. He remains open to further improvement and I think this looks a good opportunity for him to get firmly back on track. The danger is I’m To Blame who cashed in off a reduced mark to win over track and trip a fortnight ago. He is up 4lb but should go well despite this looking tougher. Diamond State likes it here and continues to run up to a decent level and also looks likely to be in the mix in the closing stages.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) WON AGAIN YESTERDAY AND IS ON A FOUR-TIMER!
Newbury 4.15 Bothwell Bridge (2/1)
Lightly raced sort who made an impressive start in this sphere winning readily at Sandown back in December; fell early in a good race at Kempton on Boxing Day but still brings potential and can bounce back here.
I know they’ve always held BOTHWELL BRIDGE in high regard so it was good to see him put in a polished display to make a winning chase debut at Sandown back in December. He jumped well in the main and stayed on strongly to beat Mahler’s Promise who is a fair yardstick. Things didn’t work out at Kempton next time where he took a tumble early but if his confidence hasn’t been knocked too much I fancy him to resume his progress here. He is still hugely unexposed in this sphere and I think he could prove a cut above these granted a clear round of jumping. Nestor Park will keep galloping and should run his race with Luca Morgan claiming a handy 5lb. Young Bull also has to enter calculations.
