First selection in the Lucky 15

Cheltenham 1.30 Dysart Dynamo (9/4)

Looked a smart prospect in bumpers winning both starts and made all in taking fashion to go 2-2 over hurdles at Punchestown back in January; improving all the time and can get these in trouble going hard off the front.

With Sir Gerhard heading to the Ballymore this looks a great chance for DYSART DYNAMO to put his name up in lights. He won both starts in bumpers easily and despite looking babyish on hurdles debut at Cork his jumping did improve as the race went on. He put that experience to good use to win head in chest at Punchestown and an even stronger pace here will only help him further. I think he has been largely underestimated and I’m expecting big things next week. If he handles the prelims well and settles in the race I honestly don’t think they’ll see which way he goes. Henderson saddles both Constitution Hill and Jonbon but his form heading into this would have to be a worry. It’s the lowest amount of winners heading into the Festival since 1997 so that is a red flag for me. I think Constitution Hill might be taken out his comfort zone so Jonbon could emerge as the main danger. Of the rest Mighty Potter looks a solid place bet as he will improve again. He has won 2 from 3 over hurdles and still looks quite raw so should be finishing strongly.

Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)

Cheltenham Tuesday 1.30 Dysart Dynamo (9/4)

Second selection in the Lucky 15

Cheltenham 5.30 Stattler (9/4)

Promising staying chaser who has certainly looked the part so far over fences winning both starts and beating subsequent winner Farouk D’alene at Naas latest; should relish this test and brings the most potential to the table.

I’m really looking forward to seeing STATTLER in the National Hunt Chase next week. I know he didn’t quite live up to expectations over hurdles last season but his form certainly shouldn’t be knocked and I think it was very much a bonus whatever he achieved. He has always looked a chaser in the making “a future Grand National horse”. Connections have targeted this in recent years with Rathvinden back in 2018 and Galvin last year. He has showed more speed over fences and looks an all round better horse to me. He beat Farouk D’alene at Naas last time and that horse has since beaten Beacon Edge at Navan which is very strong form. He will improve again going up further in trip and I think he can get the better of Run Wild Fred. The latter ticks a lot of boxes for this but he has never travelled away from Ireland and can sometimes disregard his fences. He is ‘battle-hardened’ and stays all day so should be bang there but I’m siding with potential on this occasion. Pats Fancy is in great form and comfortably looks best of the rest.

National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Novices’ Chase (Grade 2)

Cheltenham Tuesday 5.30 Stattler (9/4)

Third selection in the Lucky 15

Cheltenham 2.10 Bravemansgame (9/4)

Exciting chaser who is a perfect 4-4 over fences this term; showed class to skip away from Itchy Feet at Haydock before slamming Ahoy Senor at Kempton; gave weight and a beating at Newbury; more to come yet.

With both Bob Olinger and Galopin Des Champs likely to head to the Turners on Thursday BRAVEMANSGAME looks the one to side with here. Nicholls has made it no secret how highly he regards this horse with comparisons made to Denman in the past. He has danced his way to a perfect 4-4 over fences this season and looks one of the most exciting novice chasers in training right now. He gave weight and a beating to Pats Fancy at Newbury last time and has done everything you’d want to see in the run up to this. I know he looked a bit tame up the hill behind Bob Olinger in the Ballymore last year but he has proved he stays this season and looks a different proposition to me over fences. It looks a straight shootout with L’homme Presse. The latter is also unbeaten over fences and like the selection ticks plenty of trends. I think he’ll be staying on well up the hill but I’m hoping Bravemansgame’s tactical speed gets him in trouble before that and he is always doing just enough late. Of the rest Capodanno shouldn’t be forgotten.

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)

Cheltenham Wednesday 2.10 Bravemansgame (9/4)

Fourth selection in the Lucky 15

Cheltenham 3.30 Minella Indo (11/2)

Travelled strongly in this last year before staying on best up the hill to hold A Plus Tard at bay; pulled up in the King George but very much got back on track when second in the Irish Gold Cup last time; been primed for this.

The Gold Cup hasn’t been an easy puzzle to solve this year. To be honest when is it ever? I’m keen to side with MINELLA INDO as he bids to defend his crown. There was no fluke about his performance last year and I loved the way he travelled into it before always holding on from A Plus Tard. He has always peaked for Cheltenham winning the Albert Bartlett back in 2019 before being beaten dramatically by Champ in the RSA back in 2020. His record speaks volumes and at 11/2 he just looks to big in the market to ignore. He is still only a 9yo and if he is at his best I’m not sure anything is good enough in here to stop him. Galvin has the sexy profile coming into this and also comes good at the Festival. He beat A Plus Tard in the Saville Chase when last seen and will be ready to give his all here. My issue with him is his price as I think he has been overbet now – still the most likely danger to the selection though. A Plus Tard won’t be far away again but may find one or two too good. If Astern Forlonge comes here and jumps round he could be overpriced.
