NAP – Best selection of the evening
Southwell 3.20 Boombawn (5/6)
Promising sort who finished an encouraging third behind Jonbon and Good Risk At All at Newbury last year; bumped into another nice prospect when runner-up at Doncaster last time; should be hard to beat now.
The NAP was back in the winners enclosure yesterday as Malpas found another gear to get on top at Carlisle. We head to Southwell on Monday as we look to get off to a winning start to a new week and BOOMBAWN should make the breakthrough now. His form is rock solid and he again shaped well following a wind op when runner-up at Doncaster last time. He remains open to further improvement and I expect him to have too much for these rivals. Fortunedefortunata made a bright start too winning on debut at Ludlow last month. He can improve but this won’t be easy under a penalty. Parliament Hill should also do better but his jumping needs to be a lot slicker than last time to feature here.

Wincanton 2.20 Ballyblack (15/8)
Irish point winner who made a really encouraging start under Rules to finish runner-up at Taunton on hurdles debut; stepped forward to beat a subsequent winner at Exeter; third to two nice types latest; more to come.
With our original NB now a non runner this looks a great chance for BALLYBLACK to get himself back in the winners enclosure. I don’t think he was at his best in testing ground at Ascot but the two that finished in front of him are both clearly very talented so it wasn’t a terrible effort by any means. He is sure to keep improving and this better ground should see him resume his progress. Guernesey has been very consistent and he looks the danger but he will need to find more to cope with the selection I feel. Of the rest Reserve Tank is obviously a bit of an eye catcher in here but he has been badly out of sorts and pulled up last time so has enough to prove on the balance. Electric Annie on a roll but this tougher.
