Race 12 Fair Grounds 10.44 Epicenter (6/5)

Smart colt in the making having won 3 of his last 4 and was geared down to win the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes here last month; can only improve and expected to prove a cut above this opposition; keep firmly on side.

Some good racing Stateside tonight and hopefully EPICENTER will be worth the wait in the Louisiana Derby. This colt won the Risen Star Stakes in great style last month and that race is usually a good pointer leading into this. He is thoroughly progressive and can make it 4 wins from his last 5 starts here. Pioneer Of Medina was behind the selection last time but had won his previous two starts and can improve too so might be the one to chase him home. Kupuna is quite a big price having kicked away impressively at Oaklawn and he bumped into one in Cyberknife last time. He should have more to come so is definitely considered but this is a very good race and the fav is clearly the one to beat.

Race 9 Gulfstream Park 9.10 Lucci (11/8)

Promising colt who has won 2 of his 3 starts and impressed over track and trip when last seen in January; scope to improve further and if he does he should have all these in trouble including main rival Big Invasion.

Plenty of unexposed sorts lining up here so I expect it to throw up some future winners but I have liked what I’ve seen from LUCCI and I think he can win again. He was firmly on top last time and with further progress to come can make it 3 wins from just 4 starts. Big Invasion impressed last time and has to be feared most but this is definitely tougher. High Front made a perfect start winning easily on debut but lacks experience and is certain to find this tougher but still has to be feared. Bueno Bueno has been very consistent in recent starts and shouldn’t be overlooked at a bigger price. Trikitraki won his first two starts before disappointing last time. Could also get involved if bouncing back.
