Aintree Festival Day 3 Tips

ADD OUR AINTREE FESTIVAL DAY 3 DAILY DOUBLE TO BET365 BET SLIP!

IT’S GRAND NATIONAL DAY! Day 3 of Aintree’s Grand National meeting and plenty to get stuck into with the main event taking place at 5.15pm. Can’t wait! We’ve got all 7 races covered in detail again including main dangers to our selections.

We’ll include key information like how we think the race will be run and who we see emerging as the main danger (or dangers). Profit and loss will be calculated to level stakes (same as our oddschecker bets and like we did at Cheltenham) and posted daily to Twitter.

Aintree 1.45 Beauport (best price 14/1) LONGSHOT

Likeable sort who ran two big races at Newbury and Sandown before deservedly getting his head back in front at Uttoxeter last month; 6lb higher but came clear with the runner-up last time; should run a big race.

The final day of the Grand National Festival starts with a wide open handicap with the maximum field of 22 going to post. I’ve thrown two darts in this! BEAUPORT has been in such good form (2221) and finally got his nose back in front last time out at Uttoxeter. He is unexposed at this trip and in a race with 6 places available I would be surprised if he wasn’t in the frame at the vert least.

Last years runner up J’AI FROID looks overpriced running off the same mark again this year. He has been poor over fences but plenty have gone chasing before running in this with success in the past and he could run a massive race. There are plenty of dangers including Serious Charges who’s profile I really like but was put off by the record of 5 years olds in this race. Winter Fog and Third Wind were impressive at Cheltenham and could be in the mix under higher weights.

Bet365 are paying an extra place on this race, you can now get 5 places.

Aintree 2.25 Walking On Air (best price 4/1) EYE CATCHER

Caught the eye when runner-up on debut in a bumper at Kempton, pulling hard; settled better to win impressively on debut over hurdles at Newbury; sure to do better and looks an exciting prospect.

Three Stripe Life has very solid form to his name and lost little in defeat again when second to Sir Gerhard in the Ballymore. This quicker ground asks a different question though and I want to chance the untapped potential WALKING ON AIR brings to the table. He ran out a mightily impressive winner on debut over hurdles at Newbury and I think he can take this step up in grade in his stride. He has been targeted for this and the yard have already been amongst the winners this week. 4/1 looks the value play.

Three Stripe Life is obviously hugely respected but might lack a gear change on this ground so that could bring Good Risk At All into the argument. He really impressed at Ascot and is also likely to improve so might be a decent punt to hit the frame. North Lodge won his first two before going down narrowly last time and can still do better too so might not be far away either.

Aintree 3.00 Edwardstone (best price 8/11)

Did everything that was asked of him to stride clear and win the Arkle impressively last month; jumps and travels well and hard to get away from again; comfortably the most likely winner and should get the job done.

Going to keep this one pretty simple because if EDWARDSTONE is at the same level as he was at Cheltenham he wins this. He has won his last 5 over fences and impressed again in the Arkle. He has been on the go since November but that didn’t seem to be an issue last time out and he is the one to beat which is very much being reflected in the market.

Gentleman De Mee is an interesting rival as he is improving with every run but still has to prove it at this level. Third Time Lucki could be the one to chase the selection home again but I can’t see why anyone would be backing him to reverse that form.

Aintree 3.35 Flooring Porter (best price 15/8) NAP

Kept pouring it on to defend his Stayers’ Hurdle crown at the Cheltenham Festival last month; jumping an asset and if he is in the same form here he will be hard to get past in the closing stages; the one to beat.

The NAP won again at Aintree on Friday so we head into Saturday chasing a hat-trick of winners. I still don’t think we’ve seen the best of FLOORING PORTER and he is hard to look past off the back of that dominant Stayers’ Hurdle victory last month. He jumped efficiently throughout and was never getting headed in the closing stages. He kept finding more and crossed the line with still more to give. It will be interesting to see if he gets an uncontested lead again but even so I think he’ll work his way there and have too much in the closing stages.

Champ travelled up strongly at Cheltenham but finished a bit tamely and was beaten 4 lengths. Thyme Hill may well emerge as the main danger once more.

Looked to be cruising to victory in the Charlie Hall before crashing out and while he disappointed in the Ryanair behind Allaho last month he looks to have leading claims now dropping into handicap company.

This race has been won by horses higher in the handicap over the years and I quite like SHAN BLUE to show his class here. I prefer him over this trip than the Ryanair last time and that run despite pulling up should put him spot on for this. He was so far clear in the Charlie Hall before falling so his mark does look lenient as he would be much higher in the ratings if winning that.

As a saver Oscar Elite looks a good bet after running a huge race to finish third in the Ultima. He is up 2lb for that and I think he has more to come at this trip in handicap company. There are plenty who could get involved including Espoir De Romay and Killer Kane.

Aintree 5.15 Any Second Now (best price 11/1) each way

Ran a huge race in defeat to finish third in this last year having been badly hampered; can jump better too and warmed up for this with a gutsy win at Fairyhouse last time; with better luck in running could be the one to beat.

Aintree 5.15 Delta Work (best price 11/1) each way

Back to form pegging back National hero Tiger Roll in the Cross Country at Cheltenham last month; jumped well and stayed on strongly; lots to like coming into this and sure to run a big race if in the same form again here.

Aintree 5.15 Eclair Surf (best price 14/1) each way

Came into his own since his stamina has been drawn out winning impressively at Warwick back in January; runner-up to Win My Wings now looks really strong form given what that horse did in the Scottish Grand National.

Aintree 5.15 School Boy Hours (best price 25/1) each way

Put it altogether to win in gutsy fashion at Leopardstown after Christmas; well backed before making a race-ending error in the Kim Muir last month; potentially well handicapped and looks worth chancing.

Aintree 5.15 Fortescue (best price 28/1) each way

Stamina in abundance; caught the eye staying on strongly for third in the Peter Marsh before improving to win well at Ascot back in February; same mark here and could be one that might have gone under the radar.

The Grand National is often wide open but I have to admit it looks ultra competitive this year! I’ve backed a few in the race but my main hope would have to be ANY SECOND NOW for JP McManus. He ran huge in this last year to finish third and with a trouble-free run (easier said than done) he is the one to beat. He was badly hampered at the 12th and did well to recover after that. He is 7lb higher but I liked the attitude he showed to win at Fairyhouse and he is only 2lb higher than that here.

Another one I like near the top of the betting is DELTA WORK. This horse has always possessed a lot of class and I thought he jumped particularly well to peg back Tiger Roll in the Cross Country last month. He is a horse with plenty of scope who stays well and I think he is going to give Jack Kennedy a great spin. If he gets into a rhythm early I think he’ll be the one that trades favourite in-running. I did think we’d get bigger than 11/1 but I guess that shows how impressive he was to win last month.

I was so happy to see ECLAIR SURF get in late in the week after Win My Wings won the Scottish National with ease last weekend. He is 4lb well in at the weights and carries just 10 stone 6 round here. They always give him a nice break between races and he just keeps improving. His run in the Eider from the front was impressive and he should get a clear sight of all his fences at Aintree as well and I think he will go very well.

The other one who got in at the last minute (number 40 at the time of writing) is FORTESCUE. He seems a big price based on his form over trips around 3 miles. Henry Daly has brought him on nicely with big improvements of late and there could be a lot to come over these extreme trips and carrying just 10-6 he will be able to show exactly what he can do.

Aintree 6.20 Henri The Second (best price 7/1) each way

Overcame inexperience to make a winning start at Chepstow running on strongly; responded well to pressure to make it 2-2 at Ascot last time; given time since and clearly has a bright future; should go close.

Paul Nicholls is going for a hat-trick in this race having won it with McFabulous and Knappers Hill and HENRI THE SECOND could be a very smart prospect in the making as well. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from him so far and I’m hoping he can remain unbeaten here. This obviously requires another step up but he looks to have been targeted for this and I’m surprised 7/1 is available.

Mullins always has to be respected in bumpers and it’s no surprise to see him saddle the favourite Rath Gaul Boy. He made a winning start under Rules at Leopardstown and with natural improvement stepping up in grade should make his presence felt. Walk In The Park gelding Ernest Gray also looks to have a bright future and is likely to be involved as well in what looks a decent renewal.
