Punchestown 3.40
A really tricky start to Day 2 of the Punchestown Festival so it won’t surprise you that I’ve taken two against the field. I can see HUMBLE GLORY running a big race. I thought she shaped well when fourth on return at Ballinrobe. She looked to me as though she’d come on for the run and off the same mark coming back in trip slightly she looks to have plenty in her favour and 12/1 seems too big albeit in an open race.
At a bigger price WHOSGOTYANOW is intriguing making her handicap debut. She has clocked some decent speed figures and has potential to improve again so at around 25/1 has to be included. Of the market principals Life In The Park looks the most interesting.

This looks like an intriguing race and I think SAM’S CHOICE is worth another chance after 3 consecutive seconds in good races behind the top 2 in the market. He gets a small swing at the weights here which could see him get his head in-front and looks a nice price considering how close he was to the fancied horse in the market.
Both Freedom To Dream and Glengouly are the dangers having beaten the selection recently but they both have penalties which could see them vulnerable. I A Connect isn’t one to give up on either so must enter calculations too.

I’m really keen on FILS D’OUDAIRIES here for Nicky Henderson. This 7yo has run two massive races shaping better than the bare result at Ascot and then finding all bar the well handicapped Langer Dan too strong at Aintree. He has the best form on offer and if he runs to a similar level again should come out on top and make the trip over worthwhile for the Seven Barrows team.
Ganapathi is feared for Mullins but he needs to do better than what we’ve seen recently. The better ground might suit so he does look the main threat. Classic Getaway still has potential so is also noted but his best form is with cut in the ground.
Punchestown 5.20
This race has been won by a few superstars over the years and some of these have potential to be amongst the best. This has to be one of the deepest renewals in years with the whole field in with a chance. The way THE NICE GUY won at Cheltenham suggests he has a lot to come and could make it 5 wins from 5 runs here. He was a big price that day but beat Minella Cocooner and should hold that form.
There are dangers galore in here and I actually think Minella Crooner could reverse the Leopardstown form with Minella Cocooner and be the main danger. I wouldn’t even rule out Meet And Greet at 50/1 who will improve plenty for the step up in trip.
Punchestown 5.55
It was another demolition job for ALLAHO at the Cheltenham Festival last month and I can’t wait to see him back up to 3 miles. He is just relentless and if he has come out the race well I think he’ll take all the beating here. They need to keep a lid on him in the prelims but if all is calm I can only see his price contracting (already 7/4 in some places). He will go off the front and may well just grind these into submission.
I definitely think Galvin is the most interesting in opposition. He ran huge to peg back A Plus Tard in the Savills Chase and was just never really in the hunt in the Gold Cup before staying on well late. This test will suit better so he has to be feared.
Punchestown 6.30
The rematch between FACILE VEGA and American Mike who finished 1st and 2nd in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. I can’t see the form being reversed with the way Facile Vega won that day on heavy ground. He travelled all over American Mike before pulling away. American Mike might be able to travel a little better on this faster surface but would need to find a fair bit more to turn the tables.
Redemption Day went to Cheltenham with a good reputation but finished a long way down the field and I think Seabank Bistro could be the one to follow the top 2 home.
Punchestown 7.05
The progressive CIEL DE NEIGE should be hard to beat here for Willie Mullins and Mark Walsh. He was a nose away from making it 4-4 over fences at Thurles last month and with potential to do better again as competitive as this looks I think he should be clear favourite to get back to winning ways. This slight step up in trip could be a further catalyst for improvement so he gets a confident vote.
Given the size of the field I’m happy to play FOXY JACKS each way as a saver. He won this race last year and caught the eye chasing home Birchdale at Leopardstown back in February. His jumping has let him down since but granted a clear round he can run a big race.
Punchestown 7.45
I am not usually a fan of mares’ bumpers but this looks a good race. DORANS WEIR gets the vote as I think her form is very good especially the close 2nd behind The Nice Guy who is favourite for the Grade 1 earlier on the card. She then beat the reopposing Pink In the Park at Fairyhouse which is form I think will work out well and that rival will likely be the main danger.
Lily Du Berlais is the other one I think will go well. She is unbeaten and could have more to come here.
