Newmarket 1.50
Not a big field handicap but it is extremely competitive. GOLDEN FLAME looks worth a bet at a big price after finishing the season in very good form taking a nice handicap at Haydock. He looks like a horse with plenty to come and if anywhere near full fitness will outrun his odds so worth covering each way.
Cemhaan won his comeback run well in a weaker race and will be the main danger if he can repeat it at this level. Of the rest Valley Forge has to be taken seriously if not needing the run and Sir Rumi is noted if he gets this run to suit.

With FORZA ORTA‘s sole win as a 3yo coming at this track I think he has a big chance of getting his head back in front. He was beaten just a length on return at Thirsk and with usual improvement is certainly going to be in the mix under Shane Gray. This further step up in trip will play to his strengths and I thought 7/2 looked too big at the time of writing. There is plenty of pace on and he could get this run to suit as well.
Tribal Art looks the obvious danger to me. He was steadily progressive last season winning 3 from 7 and returned with a win at Wolverhampton following a wind op. He did look beat on that occasion but rallied to great effect. He failed to back that up at Nottingham though and he’ll need them to go hard to stay on late as he doesn’t have much tactical speed.

Crenelle has to be respected given the way she won last month but the market has found her and I think PERIPATETIC has been largely overlooked. This filly by Ulysses went down just a neck on debut over a mile here and that was a huge effort as she was slowly into stride and she ran green when asked to try and challenge. She finished strongly but could never get to the winner Mellow Yellow who looks another nice filly.
She improved to win going away at Newcastle and I was taken with how strongly she travelled through that race. She is likely to have improved again and on breeding will relish these extra two furlongs here. She is around 5/1 at the time of writing and I can’t see how she isn’t going to go close under David Egan. Crenelle is the danger but With The Moonlight also has to be feared given connections but needs to improve.

Kevin Ryan has won this race a few times (2011, 2012 and 2018) and has a great chance of adding another one to that tally with GIS A SUB. He is well clear on ratings after running well at Group 2 level at the end of last season. His trainer should have him ready for this and a repeat of last seasons form would see him take this.
One of the others would need to improve to win this with Mitbaahy looking like the main danger after a good prep run for this. Edward Cornelius won on return but this is definitely tougher and he looks to have enough to find.

Salisbury 2.40
Another small field and not the easiest race to try and work out but I do think SPIRIT MIXER is the one to side with for Andrew Balding. He is by Frankel and looked to need the run when fourth on return. He still has potential off this handicap mark and with the cobwebs blown away looks to have found a good opportunity to get his head back in front.
Oman should have more to come over staying trips but might just be better for the run here and that is what has swayed my mind ultimately. Zoffee has chosen this over Doncaster last night and also needs to be noted but might be up against it.

This a really interesting renewal with 4/5 looking to have good chances. EBAIYRA gets the vote though as she already has a run under her belt so should be spot on for this. She has won at this level twice before and has ran with credit in Group 1s. I would expect a massive run from her and could be tough to beat.
Ville De Grace beat Lilac Road at the track at the end of the last season but I expect Lilac Road to reverse the form. She goes well fresh and had plenty of trouble in running that day and may enjoy the ground more than her rival.

I always find the 1000 Guineas quite a tough race to work out and in all honesty I don’t have the best record in it. I do however have fond memories of backing Sky Lantern for it back in 2013 at 16/1 so it is still a race I am hopeful of working out when it comes round. No standout this year for me even with the potential the unbeaten Tenebrism brings to the table. The market signs just haven’t been strong enough for me to get involved so I’ve decided to take her on with stamina to prove.
I liked what I saw from DISCOVERIES at the end of last season and this sister to Alpha Centauri could have a lot of improvement to come. She really picked up well to win the Moyglare and I get the impression this test is really going to suit. She is a cracking each way bet at 8/1 and I think she could be one to follow not just for today but for the season ahead. Mehmas filly Malavath is proven over this distance and that has to be a plus so she might emerge as the main threat under Soumillon. Tuesday is also noted but this will be a big step up.
