Hamilton 3.50

The Sunday Series returns and it’s a tricky opener! I’ve given a tentative vote to KIND SPIRIT for Mark Johnston. This Outstrip colt shaped with plenty of encouragement on debut when second at Chelmsford. He ran on well once he realised what was required and if he is more streetwise from that I think he’ll go close under Fanning.

Legend Of Xanadu has had a couple of starts so has experience on side but I’m surprised he is as short in the betting. Pride Of Yorkshire looks the danger as he will improve from that debut fourth at Thirsk.

Leopardstown 4.05

Interesting renewal with the class of AGARTHA on show against plenty of improving types. I have sided with the horse we know goes well at a higher level than this after running well in a couple of Group 1s and 2s last season. She just fell short on her comeback run at the track last month but that run should have her fit and ready for this race and she is the one to beat.

There are a quite a few who could improve to challenge the selection with History likely to run a big rice if not needing the run. Panama Red was behind the selection last time and could improve for the outing and the unbeaten Suwayra is worth a market check.

Hamilton 4.18

I’m taking a chance on one here in the shape of INDY MOON for Ed Dunlop. This Sea The Moon filly is a double-figure price which surprises me. She improved quite quickly to open her account on just her second start and while things didn’t work out up to Listed company on final start as a 2yo that looked a hot race and she has more to offer on handicap debut. She can obviously progress again and with Fanning up she can get competitive.

Nordhalla is on a hat-trick and looks a deserved favourite if she gets this extra furlong. Thunder Queen remains unexposed and is another one that looks a danger to all. Myristica has threatened at producing a big performance but she may end up coming on for the run but definitely one I’ve got my eye on.

Leopardstown 4.35

Aidan O’Brien has dominated this race over the last few years like he has in most of the Derby trials and he has another good one in STONE AGE here. It won’t be easy with a few good rivals in here but he seems the one they have to beat. He was good over a mile last year before showing how good he could be when finishing a close second in a Group 1 in France over this trip. They got a run into him already this season when he won easily at Navan over today’s trip and he will continue to improve and I think he will win this before running in the Derby.

Atomic Jones is one of the dangers as he just beat the selection at a mile but has been off since. I think the form will be reversed at this distance with fitness in favour of Stone Age. Of the rest French Claim and Duke De Sessa have improved going up in trip and will be fighting it out for places at least.

Hamilton 4.48

This is wide open but I’m quite keen on one at a double-figure price in the shape of EILEAN DUBH. This colt showed improved form to win at Newcastle in March despite racing keenly. I thought under a better ride he would have gone close at Pontefract and while he didn’t back that up at Newmarket last month he just pulled his chance away and I’m happy to put a line through that. This big field will suit as hopefully he can get covered up early before picking his way through. He still has potential off this handicap mark and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him one of the gambles of the race.

Gweedore returned with a win at Musselburgh and is the right favourite. I think he’ll put up the most resistance but A Boy Named Ivy also has to be considered on recent form. Of the rest Stately Home is noted but a 6lb rise demands more in a race like this.

Leopardstown 5.05

Quite an open race with 3 or 4 of these in with a real good chance. I have sided with GEORGEVILLE to reverse the form with Real Appeal. Real Appeal beat the selection by 1 and a half lengths in the Boomerang Mile over course and distance last season but now has to give weight away to him on his seasonal comeback. The selection also has fitness on side after a promising comeback run at the Curragh behind Layfayette which looks a good race on the form and I expect him to improve for that and go well in this.

Ivy League is the main danger as a 3 year old he gets a lot of weight from these and is improving fast. O’Brien has got 3 runs into him already with his last win looking smart and he is clearly still learning. He was only opposed as I took the proven class at this level of the selection.

Hamilton 5.18

I’ve been with Ava Go Joe the last twice but things have panned out rather favourably for him and another 3lb rise might be enough to find him out here. My main hope in the race would have to be SHOWALONG for Tim Easterly. He came on for his return run to finish within just half a length of Ava Go Joe at Ripon and if he builds on that I can see him reversing that form this afternoon.

Given the nature of the race it might be worth chancing FINE WINE as a saver as well. He was impressive winning at Southwell last month and he has performed creditably in defeat since so might surprise a few here at a big price. Plenty of dangers heading by Rayong and Zim Baby.

Hamilton 5.48

This is a really open race and it is worth siding with ALIA CHOICE each way on her handicap debut. She showed promise over the minimum trip on the all weather with form of 4th, 1st and 2nd. She steps up in trip on her first run on turf and it could see her improve a fair bit from her mark of 80. She should be fit and ready for this after a good run last month and should go well.

There are no shortage of dangers with the main one being Aasser who is favourite at the time of writing and I think he may prove better than a mark of 85 as he has either won or not been far away on any of his starts. Of the rest Lethal Levi has been a model of consistency and could run a huge race.

Hamilton 6.18

Sea The Stars filly HAIZOOM won 3 times last year and she shaped as though needing the run when down the field over C&D on return. If that run has blown away the cobwebs I think she can surprise a few here. She is still just a 4yo and largely unexposed so I can see her improving again this campaign and she looks good value to spring a bit of an upset at around 10/1.

Emaraty Hero didn’t shape badly on return and with usual improvement is a big player here. Uncharted was also a good second on reappearance and will likely play a hand in the finish here. Baileys Derbyday best of the rest.

Hamilton 6.45

Another maximum field of 15 to cap off the card at Hamilton and the favourite LIFE ON THE ROCKS looks the one they have to beat. He warmed up for this with a fine margin win at Ayr on his seasonal reappearance – that should leave him spot on for this race. He was only put up 5lb for that and the application for first-time cheekpieces could see him step forward again and go very close here.

The main dangers look to be Bollin Joan who drops in class to run here and Happy who might still have more to offer off his current mark. Where’s Jeff is also respected of those at bigger odds.
