York 1.50

A decent race to kick off the Dante Meeting at York with plenty of horses in here likely to be running in Group company as the season goes on. William Haggas trained last years winner and he has another great chance with a rapidly improving sort in GAASSEE. He rattled off 3 nice wins at the tail end of last year and has likely improved over the winter. He looks like a Group horse in a handicap and should be going very close off a mark of 94.

There are plenty of dangers in here but I do think Forza Orta might be the biggest off a really low weight which he can take advantage of. Sam Cooke and the classy Global Storm are best of the rest in a good renewal.

Newton Abbot 2.05

This looks quite competitive on paper but I’m keen on TULIN coming away with the prize. This horse had looked really promising initially before going off the boil at Wincanton when last seen. He has undergone wind surgery since and on this good ground I’m expecting a big run. Diligent should go hard off the front and I just think Angus Cheleda will track him through before pouncing in the closing stages.

Diligent is probably the likely danger given his recent form but I’m not ruling out a big run from Global Agreement who looks a big price given he is nearly the outsider of the entire field. He needs to bounce back but this test will suit.

York 2.25

Maximum field of 22 going to post for this and it gives us a really good price on COUNT D’ORSAY who really caught the eye at Chester last week. He flew home to just lose out by a neck behind a good horse in Look Out Louis. He gets to run off the same mark here he will run a massive race again at a big price.

Mr Lupton won this last year off a higher mark so has to be taken seriously again but hasn’t had a prep run this season. The main danger is likely going to be Nomadic Empire who has been flying of late and could improve for his first run of the season.

York 3.00

This looks a decent renewal of the Duke Of York but I’m confident MINZAAL brings the most potential to the table for Owen Burrows. This Mehmas colt has only actually raced 6 times and I remember the way he won the Gimcrack here as a 2yo he looked something out of the top draw. He was beaten a length by Tis Marvellous on return before running another big race in defeat when third in the Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot. His form is hard to knock and back at a track he loves with potential to do better as a 4yo he gets a confident vote to come out on top.

Dragon Symbol was a bit unlucky last year and deserves to win more races so has to be feared and at a bigger price Garrus catches the eye having flashed home for second in the Albernant and he has Ryan Moore up again too.

York 3.35

The Musidora is always a stepping stone for some classy sorts and EMILY UPJOHN looks to have a great chance of improving John Gosden’s impressive record in the race. She is two wins from two starts and I was so impressed by her win at Sandown. She has clearly trained on and I think she will be a big player amongst the 3 year old fillies this season and likely a very short price for the Oaks after this.

Life Of Dreams is 1 win from 1 start after winning easily on debut at Newmarket and she is the main danger in a fairly weak field. She will improve for the run so she may give the selection something to think about but lacks experience.

York 4.10

The progressive SAMBURU holds a Group 1 entry at Royal Ascot so if he is to take that up he will want to be winning this and winning it well. An opening mark of 88 looks to underestimate him on what we’ve seen and I liked how he did it at Salisbury despite looking a little rough around the edges.

He should be a lot more streetwise here and he gets a confident vote to deliver Gosden and Dettori another winner. I think he’ll switch him off early before looking to pick his way through in the closing stages. If he does do that we will need a bit of luck in-running to get the gaps but other than that I’m confident he’ll have too much for this field. The Cookstown Cafu might emerge as the main danger.
