York 1.50

This is always a wide open race as you would expect with lightly raced 2 year olds. As a result there have been plenty of beaten favourites in recent years. I have gone with two in this with CARMELA being my best bet in the race. She won with ease in a fairly good time on debut at Yarmouth and looks straight-forward. She will likely come on a lot for the run and go very well here under Richard Kingscote.

JUMBEAU is a much bigger price than I expected after an easy win at Brighton last month. She will improve for that run and looks good value in an open race. Miami Girl is obviously the danger after streaking clear at Newmarket at the start of month on debut. The time wasn’t the best so she may have just quickened off a slow pace so hard to gauge how good she is.

Newbury 2.05

I’m going to take a chance on IBIZA ROCKS leaving behind that reappearance run at Newmarket last month. He didn’t go unbacked that day but just raced too keenly in the hands of David Egan and inevitably weakened in the closing stages. He will be a lot fitter now and I also like the angle of him dropping down to 6f for the first time. He ran a big race off this mark at Ascot so I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t have a bit in hand if he relishes the switch to a shorter trip.

Able Kane is the likely pacesetter in the race and he is drawn right next to the selection so I just expect Kieran Shoemark to track that horse through before hopefully producing him with a winning run late on. The danger looks to be Silver Samurai who is a good looking sort and he has been running well enough in defeat to be a player here. Puerto De Vega possibly best of the rest but this is a big enough ask off his current mark.

York 2.25

This doesn’t look a deep renewal with plenty of these having something to prove. I hope GRANDE DAME can be a star in the making after a very good win on debut when fairly green. That run suggests she has plenty more to come and if showing the speed at the end of the race again like she did at Ascot she will take this. It’s no surprise to see her trading as favourite and she looks one of the better bets on the card.

Perfect News has some really solid form in the book having chased home subsequent Guineas winner Cachet in the Nell Gwyn on return. My only issue with her is whether she will get the mile here. Fonteyn has been brought along gradually and could rate a greater danger.

York 3.00

I’ve been waiting for Tom Clover to step ROGUE BEAR up in trip and finally we get to see him tackle a mile and a quarter. He has done all his best work late on in two starts so far this season and both represent really strong pieces of form. He remains open to further improvement and is hugely unexposed. I know this looks competitive on paper but 11/4 is a great price to me as I don’t see anything finishing as well as him in here.

He is up 2lb from that half a length second to Modern News at Newbury but I’ll be surprised if he isn’t ahead of his mark still. Belloccio impressed making a winning handicap debut at Kempton last month and will be the danger if transferring that to turf up just 5lb.

York 3.35

Hardly a vintage renewal of this race with Trueshan not running which is disappointing. It does look like STRADIVARIUS race to lose now. He always runs his race no matter the ground they put him on but he flourishes on better ground. If he is near full fitness he will win this that is my only slight doubt as he has needed the run on previous occasions but his class might just see him come out on top.

Tashkhan and Search For A Song will be dangers if the selection isn’t at his best. Thunderous at a bigger price could also go well at this trip after a good run at Chester a week ago but let’s hope they are all playing catch-up as Frankie looks to guide Stradivarius home to win this for the third time in the last four years.

York 4.10

Charlie Appleby saddles the top 2 in the betting here and ready preference is for WILD CRUSADE with the Doyler in the saddle. This Dubawi colt has won his last two starts on the AW at Kempton and he looks to be getting better with experience. That form where he beat Nahanni has been well advertised this season and I thought he was always the winner on reappearance where he readily held off a solid yardstick in Aegis Power. He looks sure to improve again now tackling turf and the hat-trick beckons.

Stablemate New Comedy is 2-2 and likely won’t go down without a fight but I thought he showed signs of inexperience despite winning at Haydock and might need more to remain unbeaten here. Highland Reel colt Speycaster is a horse I like as well and he shouldn’t be entirely overlooked as he is still learning his trade as well and will enjoy this trip.
