Newbury 1.35

A competitive start to the action on ITV Racing on Saturday and I’m going to chance HIERARCHY building on that encouraging return to action when second to Go Bears Go at Ascot last month. The winner is a pretty smart yardstick and he wasn’t beaten far despite racing keenly early on. He picked his way through and ran on well. He will strip fitter from that and he makes plenty of appeal at 11/2.

Tiber Flow is favourite for Haggas and he has to be feared having won 3 from 4. He was only denied a short head at Newcastle last time too and if he steps forward again on turf he is definitely the danger. Ehraz is a good looking sort who might be seen to better effect in this bigger field.

Newmarket 1.50

This should throw up plenty of future winners but looking back through recent runnings Charlie Appleby is a man to keep on side with 3 wins in the race over the last 8 years. He runs OTTOMAN FLEET here who looks to have obvious claims if building on his debut at Newbury last month. He was given a confident ride despite being keen and only lost out to his stablemate by a neck. If stepping forward for the run he will go close again here.

Quite a few dangers with the main one looking like Zain Sarinda who just missed out on a hat-trick at Epsom last time. He still looks like he has more to come and will be a player here. Post Impressionist is another one I had in my notes and he looks to have a bright future as well.

Newbury 2.10

I know this trip probably isn’t ideal for SCOPE and he does have to carry a penalty on return but even still he is a colt with considerable ability and I think he still might come away with the prize for Ralph Beckett. The way he slammed Chalk Stream at Ascot was mightily impressive and he backed that up winning at the top level in France on final start. He is very exciting and he might just outclass these rivals.

Eshaada has won 3 of her 5 starts and she is another one that could progress again now as a 4yo so she rates the main danger. Foxes Tales was an excellent second to Mostahdaf on return at Sandown and will also get involved if building on that.

Newmarket 2.25

Plenty of these have potential to develop into smart horses and HAYMAKER is one I really like. He showed how much he has come on when making all at the track over 7 furlongs after 10 months off. He has been raised 6lb for that but in demand claimer Harry Davies takes off 7lb so he could be well-in here. The shorter trip isn’t an issue and I think he will run a massive race.

Lir Speciale is the danger with three really good runs already this year (1st/3rd/2nd). He still has plenty to come and should be a player at this level. I’m A Gambler was back in the winners enclosure at Hamilton and is an honest type so could run well at a bigger price despite this obviously being tougher.

Newbury 2.45

This produced a really promising horse last year in the shape of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Bay Bridge. The yard don’t have a runner this year which is a bit odd so I’m going to side with 2018 winning connections of Communique with LUMINOUS LIGHT for Mark Johnston. This lengthy Iffraaj colt is likely to keep improving with experience and I thought there was enough encouragement in that reappearance third at Chepstow to put him right in the mix here. He was only beaten a length and I expect him to come into his own now off an opening mark of just 86. Ryan Moore has been booked for the ride and 14/1 looks insulting.

Plenty of dangers obviously which are likely headed by Surrey Mist. He is eyeing up a hat-trick and was likely put away for this following that win at Kempton back in March. The form has been franked and he looks a lovely prospect. Of the rest Wineglass Bay caught the eye as he is sure to improve again and is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Newmarket 3.00

In an open race I am going to give QUINTILLUS a chance to bounce back from a below average run in Meydan. Prior to that race he won at Newmarket in handicap company off just 2lb lower and he likely has more to offer at this level. If it wasn’t for the Meydan run I suspect he would be a shorter price and will go well here. James Doyle should be able to find cover in this field and if things pan out favourably he is clearly a big player.

Shine So Bright is the danger if backing up over course and distance after winning here nicely 2 weeks ago. He is only up 4lb for that run but I feel he might not find it as easy here. Wizard D’Amour ties into that form as well and is clearly thriving so also has to be respected.

Newbury 3.20

I can’t wait to see BAAEED make his reappearance here! The Lockinge is often won by some very smart horses including Palace Pier last year. The selection produced a real burst of speed to beat that horse at Royal Ascot on final start and remains unbeaten having won all 6 races to date. The bookies have taken no chances with his price but with conditions ideal he is really difficult to get away from. I don’t expect him to settle too far off the pace and Crowley will likely always have him well positioned to strike.

Who will chase him home? Well Mother Earth is tough and likeable and returned with a convincing enough win in the Park Express Stakes at the Curragh. She should run her race and that might be good enough to finish second. Real World hasn’t been at his best in Saudi Arabia and Dubai on his last two starts and is hard to warm to off the back of those. Alcohol Free shaped with encouragement at least on return and with the headgear taken off she might go better than her odds are suggesting.
