Haydock 1.45

Despite being heavily backed DRAGON SYMBOL failed to land a blow on return at York. He just looked to go a bit too hard in the early stages there and had no more to give in the closing stages. He should strip a lot fitter for the run and down in grade dropped into Listed level now I expect him to have too much for this field. He went close plenty of times in Group 1s and 2s last year so really should have too much class for his rivals.

Hard to pinpoint an exact danger as they all have plenty to find but I guess Tenaya Canyon at least comes into this off the back of a good second at Newmarket and has winning form over C&D in the past. Raasel had a tough draw at York but ran well so is also considered.

Beverley 2.05

Quite an open affair with plenty of these likely to improve a fair bit over their next few runs. ABSOLUTELYFLAWLESS sets the standard though with 2 wins from 2 runs. This Ribchester filly has shown signs of greenness on both starts and I think she could improve plenty yet so will likely be be competing in group company in her next few runs. Connections think she could be pretty smart so the hat-trick could be on the cards.

Parr Fire could be the danger after a big run on debut to win at Doncaster. She will improve for her debut and is the one most likely to put it up to selection. Of the rest Distinguished Lady ran well at Newmarket and could go well too.

Haydock 2.20

Hard to split the front 3 in the betting here but I’ve come down on Gutaifan colt CONTACT. He ran a cracker on return to go down less than a length at Thirsk and improved on that to win impressively at Newmarket last month. I loved the way he ran on strongly in the closing stages and from a 5lb higher mark he looks set for another big run as he still has potential for better yet. He should get a nice toe in and is hard to get away from.

Forza Orta was beaten just a length at Thirsk before winning at Hamilton and then ran right up to form at York last time. He is an obvious danger to the selection if matching that high level of form again here. Mahrajaan remains low-mileage and is also feared.

Beverley 2.40

In what looks an open race ARRANMORE is worth another chance at a bigger price. He would have needed the run last month and stepping back down in trip looks the key. He went close over course and distance off of a 1lb higher mark and can bounce back here. I thought he’d be a big price but 14/1 is bigger than I had anticipated so he makes plenty of appeal from an each way perspective in a tricky race.

Percy’s Lad is the favourite at the time of writing and he has stepped forward substantially since the start of the season and rates the main danger on a hat-trick. I’m A Gambler is interesting for Mark Johnston who won this race two years ago.

Haydock 2.55

Given the success connections have had recently it doesn’t surprise me to see Sea La Rosa favourite here. She was steadily progressive last season winning 4 times from 7 starts but she was beaten on sole start in group company last season and may just prove a tad vulnerable. I like CLIMATE for Jessie Harrington. This filly by Australia shaped with promise when fourth on return and Lilac Road has already franked that.

Plenty of dangers away from the top 2 with Noon Star looking to bounce back. She let supporters down at York last time but is better than that and if she can bounce back stepping back up in trip she might fare best of the rest.

Beverley 3.15

The form of this race could work out very well with some useful types in here. WHISTLE AND FLUTE has the form in the book to win this after a nice win at Bath on debut followed by a good run in second at Ascot last month. The form of the Ascot race has worked out well and he has to be the one to beat here given he already sets the standard and has potential to step forward again on just his third start.

Chateau caught the eye on debut running a big race without much luck in running. He is likely the main danger and will go well. Rogue Spirit won over course and distance but may not get it all his own way here as this looks considerably tougher.

Haydock 3.30

Kinross won this last year and will likely have his supporters again but I’m not entirely sold by him and I wouldn’t be keen to take too short a price. I like HAPPY POWER for Andrew Balding. This horse has always been borderline useful and it was good to see him back up a solid run to win well at Leicester. He only had to be pushed out to beat 2 rivals on that occasion and while this is tougher he could go well now confidence is high.

Sunray Major wasn’t beaten far at Sandown on return but failed to fire behind Baaeed at Newbury last time. This is easier obviously but he needs to show more to land a blow. Spycatcher is consistent and would be a danger if a few fail to fire in here.

Chester 3.45

Boardman does look like a worthy favourite for this race but I think OH THIS IS US could be good value back at 7 furlongs over a course and distance he has won at before. 92 certainly looks like a mark he can win off given how well he has gone off higher marks and he will go well here for Richard Hannon. There could be a pace burn up and it wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of the ones finishing fast from out the pack.

Boardman has won on 2 of his last 3 starts and has only gone up 3lb for his last win. He will be the main danger to the selection from stall 2. Fools Rush In likes it here and is another one likely to get seriously competitive.
