NAP – Best selection of the evening
Beverley 3.15 Whistle And Flute (7/4)
Promising colt who made a bright start winning on debut at Bath and likely improved in defeat bumping into another nice prospect when a close second at Ascot last month; sets the standard and will improve again.
I get the impression Bakeel could be a pretty smart colt for Andrew Balding and we’ll likely see him at Royal Ascot next month so for WHISTLE AND FLUTE to run as well as he did against him carrying a penalty was a solid effort. He sets a clear standard here for me and with further improvement to come should be hard to beat. Chateau was a bit of an eye-catcher when third on debut meeting some trouble in the run. I expect him to improve enough to chase the selection home. Rogue Spirit is another one who has already visited the winners enclosure but he made all on debut and will likely find this much tougher. He can improve too though so not entirely ruled out.
NB – Second best selection of the day
MY NEXT BEST IS DUE A WINNER AND RUNS AT HAYDOCK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Haydock 4.40 Vintage Choice (2/1)
Improved from a promising debut run to get up on the line at Redcar on just his second start; returned with a very good second at Wolverhampton last month and looks off a lenient mark now sent handicapping.
This looks between the top 2 in the betting for me and ready preference is for the William Haggas-trained VINTAGE CHOICE with Tom Marquand in the saddle. This son of Lope De Vega made an encouraging return despite being turned over at odds-on at Wolverhampton last month. He goes handicapping now off what looks to be a lenient mark and I can see him staying on best here. Notions impressed to get the better of the argument at Goodwood last time and is the obvious danger with the promise of more to come up just 2lb. The Cookstown Cafu was slowly away at York and did well to finish third and looks comfortably best of the rest but might need more time and experience.
