Stayed on well to win the Spring Cup at Newbury back in April; slammed Tempus at Windsor next time; beaten twice since but solid run at Epsom and denied just a nose by My Oberon latest; can give weight and a beating.
No joy for the NAP or NB yesterday so hopefully I can put that right on Sunday. I’m looking forward to seeing MODERN NEWS at Pontefract for Charlie Appleby. This horse has solid progressive form in the book and while he has to give weight away here I think he is more than capable of doing so. He left rivals standing beating Tempus by over 4 lengths at Windsor back in May and that horse won a fiercely competitive handicap impressively at Ascot yesterday. Most of his form has been franked and while he has to give 11lb to main market rival Alflaila that horse has enough ground to make up on the clock. Magical Morning is also a danger but he failed to fire at Royal Ascot so also has enough to prove.

Chelmsford 3.20 Shifter (4/1)
Improving filly who caught the eye going down just a length on return at Yarmouth; confirmed that promise to win well over C&D last time despite having a lot to do turning in; only up 4lb so another big run beckons.
I’m surprised to see SHIFTER as big as 4/1 in the betting here. I thought she showed a smart turn of foot to win over C&D last time and a 4lb rise won’t be enough to stop her given she is likely to progress again. This is a better race but she looks a fair bit ahead of her mark. Cabinet Maker also brings winning form to the table having scored at Kempton last time. I do rate the second there Flintstone so that’s solid form. He looks the danger if building on that up another 4lb. Take A Stand is also fairly prominent in the market but he could only finish fifth last time and looked a bit one paced so I’m not sure this step up to a mile will see him in a better light. Plastic Paddy likely best of the rest but might need it.
