Goodwood 1.50
I had this between Vee Sight and MIGDAM and I’m keen to side with the latter. This colt has won 3 from 4 with his only defeat coming on debut at Nottingham. He really forged clear when hitting the front at Doncaster last month and to me he looks a horse destined for Group company. He is up 6lb but with further improvement to come he should take an awful lot of beating.
Vee Sight impressed making relentless headway to win at Sandown last time. That form has worked out well too so he is definitely a big danger as he should enjoy going up in trip too. Of the rest Warren Point just found his stablemate Wild Crusade too strong last time but looked on the up prior to that and might be capable of better again.
Goodwood 2.25
Gutted to see Noble Style not take up this engagement as I have been waiting to see him run again. That said it does leave ROYAL SCOTSMAN a decent chance of winning this after he was third in the Group 2 Coventry at Royal Ascot. He and the winner that day had to track over from the far side which wasn’t ideal so you can mark that run up. That combined with a very good course and distance win here he has to be the one to beat under Jim Crowley.
Chateau has very good form to his name at Listed level including a win last time out and a fourth in a hot Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. If he replicates either run he should give the selection most to think about. Of the rest Marshman may have scope to improve a fair bit yet so could run into the places.
I’m really keen on NEW LONDON in the Gordon Stakes. This Dubawi colt still has tons of potential and I thought that was a very convincing performance off a big weight at Newmarket last time. He goes back up in trip but looks a Group-race winner in waiting and this represents a decent opportunity. I get the impression Charlie Appleby thinks a lot of this horse so it will be disappointing if he can’t get the job done.
Hoo Ya Mal obviously ran a huge race when second to Desert Crown at Epsom and sets a good standard on that but he is a bit of an awkward customer and I wouldn’t be certain he can back that up. That might leave Deauville Legend as the main danger as he looks to be going the right way.
Goodwood 3.35
Not the easiest race to call but I am currently of the thinking this years classic form isn’t as good as I first thought and will take Nashwa on at odds-on. LILAC ROAD is the one for me here after running a cracker to win a Group 2 at York last time and that represents a nice step forward. She is likely still improving and comes here with a great chance if so at a nice price too.
Nashwa is a danger after backing up an Oaks third by winning the French Oaks but it is her first run vs older horses and you can’t be certain the form stacks up to be playing at the prices (she was 4/7 but has drifted). Of the rest Dreamloper could bounce back after a very flat run in Ireland last month and on her best form goes close here.
Goodwood 4.10
True Statesman impressed at Chester last time but he has been slammed with an 8lb rise and given he is favourite he might be worth taking on. I really like the chances of SEDUCTIVE POWER for Richard Hannon. This colt acquitted himself well on debut in a race that has worked out nicely since (had Vintage Stakes winner Marbaan in front that day). He ran behind Isaac Shelby next time probably going a bit hard off the front. He looked an improved individual getting the fractions right when winning last time and stayed on well through the line. He goes handicapping now off a mark of 84 and I think that could prove lenient.
This extra furlong should bring about further improvement and I’m looking forward to seeing him run. Sunningdale finished fourth behind the selection last time and if improving on just his fourth start he might not be too far away either.
Goodwood 4.45
This handicap is unbelievably well contested with quite of few of these with rock solid recent form. I did initially like Sir Henry Cotton to reverse that form with Swayze but he has been deemed a non runner this morning. It’s frustrating as his odds had started to tumble! My main play will now be DUSKY PRINCE for Archie Watson. This horse has turned a corner lately bolting up at both Wolves and Windsor before beating a subsequent winner in Primo’s Comet at Doncaster. He is only up another 3lb and with Hollie Doyle back in the saddle he will be bang there.
I can’t leave NAVELLO unbacked either here. This son of Ivawood clocked a career best winning at Chester last month and while he has been beaten twice since he still looks in form and he remains off a feasible mark. Buick is flying this week and at near double-figure odds he has to be worth a small saver. Plenty of dangers obviously including Swayze who is likeable and should run well. Le Beau Garcon is fav but I’m not too interested in that gamble, I think he is vulnerable.
Goodwood 5.20
The way ZARGA finished on debut at Kempton was hugely eye-catching and likely targeted for this meeting since I think this Camelot filly could have a massive chance. She is obviously bred to be pretty useful and I’m expecting her to know a lot more now. She was green as you’d expect on debut but that experience wouldn’t have been lost on her and if this gets run at a good clip she should be coming home best under Richard Kingscote.
Luckin Brew was beaten just half a length on debut at Newmarket and looks the obvious danger off the back of that. Like the selection she looked as though she’d improve for the experience and closed up well at the finish. She’s Hot ran a big race on debut and wasn’t disgraced in the Albany so with plenty of stamina in her pedigree I don’t expect her to be too far away either.
