MY US NAP RUNS IN RACE 6 AT DEL MAR ON FRIDAY NIGHT!
Race 6 Del Mar 2.29 Slow Down Andy (2/1)
Promising colt who won 3 from 5 as a 2yo last year and returned with a really encouraging effort beaten less than 2 lengths into second last month; sure to improve from that physically so big chance here.
I know it’s a bit of a wait for the US NAP but hopefully worthwhile. I’ve decided to head to Del Mar in the early hours of Saturday morning where SLOW DOWN ANDY should be really hard to beat. He won at Grade 2 level as a 2yo and looked thoroughly progressive. I thought he shaped with plenty of promise on return and with natural improvement from that he should be tough to beat here. He still has plenty of potential and can work his way up through the grades. Big City Lights looks the danger as he is 2-2 and could still be anything. He was impressive at Santa Anita but hasn’t been seen for 411 days and is far from proven at this level. Clearly a nice horse in the making but might need this.
Race 7 Woodbine 9.12 Antigone (2/1)
Tough mare who had won 3 of her last 4 on this surface before going down just half a length back on turf here last time; her form stacks up so no doubt she will be hard to beat if bringing her best; the one to side with.
Back on a synthetic surface tonight ANTIGONE has a great chance to salute the judge once more. She is tough and likeable and her form stacks up. I remember her winning by over 5 lengths here earlier in the season and that was an impressive display. She has a relentless way of going and will be pouring it on in the closing stages. She was given a lot to do on turf last time and closed up well at the line but she is better suited by this surface and I’m surprised she is as big as 2/1 as I thought she’d be shorter than that (and she may well be come post time). Moon Over Montana was second to the selection on penultimate start and might be the one to chaser her home again tonight.
