Curragh 1.35

Aidan O’Brien has a ridiculous record in this race winning the last 11 renewals. Some of his top horses have run in this in the past and he has two in here who could be pretty good. I actually don’t think there is a lot between them so will side with CONTINUOUS at a bigger price. He caught the eye on debut with the way he travelled through the race and even though he was a bit green late on he did it nicely. He will likely improve a lot for the run and step-up to a mile and will outrun his odds.

Adelaide River is the other runner for the O’Brien yard and firm favourite for this race. He won well on debut before just losing out in a Group 2 at Longchamp last time. He is the main danger and is sure to go well. Of the rest Pivotal Trigger and Lakota Seven should run well but may lack the improvement of the O’Brien pair.

Newmarket 1.50

A very small field lining up this year with just 4 runners set to go to post. Without one of these improving 8 to 10 pounds this looks like FLYING HONOURS to lose. He is by far the best on ratings and time figures. His last two wins have come easily including a 5 length win at Listed level last time. He is still improving and should take this before stepping up to Group 1s next season.

Greenland is the danger in the race for a yard who have won this a few times over the years. He won nicely last time at Roscommon but would still need to step forward here to beat the selection. I think The Foxes will chase those two home in third.

Haydock 2.05

I think there’s a good chance that the best is yet to come with MONTASSIB. He looked a horse going places winning his first 3 and while he hasn’t won since May he has some very good form to his name in defeat. He finished an excellent fifth to Inver Park at Royal Ascot just having too much ground to make up before finishing fourth in the Bunbury Cup. He then fared best of those held up when fourth in the Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot and remains unexposed. If he improves again on just his second start over this trip then he should be going close.

Akhu Najla was an expensive yearling and he looked good at Yarmouth but didn’t match that when turned over at Sandown and while he retains potential he is going to need to improve again. Encourageable finally put it altogether last time and is another one that could run a big race.

Newmarket 2.25

This is a race I love and it looks set up to be a cracker with the top two in the market looking like classy horses. MEDITATE gets a confident vote though due to the taking nature of her form behind Tahiyra. She was unbeaten going into that race and the two were well clear of the field. She was clearly beaten by a top class filly that day and has a decent chance to bounce back here.

Trillium has been a favourite of ours all season and has racked up a hat-trick of wins, with her last win beating The Platinum Queen looking very good. It will be intriguing with the selection going off the front with Trillium always played late and we will see if she can catch the selection but I can see that proving a difficult task.

Haydock 2.40

A fiercely competitive handicap coming up next so it won’t surprise you that I’ve taken two against the field. I do quite like the chances of ZARZYNI though for David Barron. He took his form up a notch in the cheekpieces winning nicely at Musselburgh earlier in the year. That was a big run behind Khaadem in the Palace House Stakes too. Things didn’t pan out in the Ayr Gold Cup but back down to the minimum trip off a 3lb lower mark makes him of serious interest.

The other one I’m going to include is BURNING CASH for Paul Midgley. This horse got back on track this season winning twice at Doncaster over the summer. He wasn’t disgraced behind Chipstead in the Portland last time and back down to 5f with an emphasis on speed could see him run well at a big price. Plenty of dangers obviously likely headed by Equality. Nomadic Empire is another one I am fearful of too.

Newmarket 3.00

This looks a good renewal of the Middle Park but even with the quality on show I am keen to side with MARSHMAN as I think he could improve the most out of all of these. He won his first two starts before being beaten by a horse we love in Noble Style. That form looks good enough to win this especially with the expected improvement I think he has to come.

Blackbeard is the main danger after winning the Prix Morney in France. That was a great run to beat the re-opposing Persian Force and he won’t be far away again. Persian Force will likely run his usual big race but may just find a few too good again.

Curragh 3.20

This looks a really good race but I’m excited to see HIAWATHA out again. Now I know it was just a maiden he won over a mile here last time but it was the way he did it that caught my eye. He was well in control at the finish and I’m expecting him to come on plenty from that again. He drops back to 7f but that could suit if he gets a good pace to run down. He could be a really nice prospect in the making so fingers crossed for a big run under Wayne Lordan.

Hellsing has won 2 from 3 and it’s easy to see why he is favourite for this. Oviedo didn’t get the best of runs behind Chaldean in the Acomb and might even improve enough to be the danger. He’s A Monster impressed winning on debut but this is much more competitive and I think he might need more time to be seen to best effect. Zoinnocent could also shape better than her odds are suggesting.

Newmarket 3.40

The Cambridgeshire has been won by 40/1 shots the last two years and to be honest it doesn’t look much easier this time around. I’m going to chance a couple at nice prices with my main hope in the race JIMI HENDRIX for Ralph Beckett. This New Bay colt showed a great attitude to prevail on the July course at Newmarket and was never put in the race at Goodwood when last seen. He got caught wide and could never find any rhythm. Put away since I get the impression they feel he is very well handicapped off a mark of 98 and I’m anticipating a big run here.

The other one I like is BELL ROCK for Andrew Balding. This son of Kingman was only beaten 2 lengths by Mujtaba at Doncaster last time. That horse is favourite for this so it’s a good form line. He was well held in this last year but back in 2020 he finished an excellent third to Majestic Dawn. He remains off a career-low mark and if he can rediscover a bit more spark he is a lively each way player. Tons of dangers headed by the unexposed Mujtaba as mentioned above. Savvy Victory would also have to be a big player if improving again with Ryan Moore up.
