Ascot 1.30

A fascinating opener to kick us off on ITV Racing on Saturday! It is the return of GOSHEN and he is jumping fences now. He ended last season thrashing the opposition by 15 lengths at Sandown over hurdles and then beat Adagio in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. He had a spin on the Flat at Goodwood to put him spot on for this and ran a cracker going down just a neck. If he takes to this discipline then it will be very exciting for connections. This definitely looks a good starting point.

Samarrive was also on the up when last seen over hurdles winning convincingly at Sandown back in April. He is likely to have been well schooled for his debut over fences and despite being 3lb out the weights looks the danger. Cobblers Dream and Gowel Road are talented in their own right so it makes for a good race.

Wetherby 1.50

It is a competitive start to the racing at Wetherby with any of 4 or 5 of these in with a good shout. PRAIRIE WOLF for Sue Smith is the selection though with some good level national hunt flat form to his name. He was fancied on hurdles debut over 2 miles and ran well in third. He will likely be far better for that run and will be bang there stepping up to this trip. He should keep improving for a while yet so no surprise to see him figuring prominently in the betting for this.

The main danger looks to be Autumn Return who has won his last 3 races and Learntalot who could step forward again on seasonal debut. The other to take note of is Joe Dadancer for Ben Pauling with his trainer having a good record on this race and having made a promising start to the new season.

Ascot 2.05

I’ve obviously got a few horses jotted down that I’m looking forward to this season and one of those is ANYHARMINASKING for Jonjo O’Neill. He is the only horse to have beaten Constitution Hill (in an Irish point) and really looked to have put it together on final two starts last season winning at Catterick and then Sedgefield. He is up another 10lb but likely be much more the finished article now and I think he’ll complete the hat-trick as competitive as this is on paper.

Call Of The Wild could be the danger in the JP McManus silks. He impressed beating Boombawn at Doncaster and that has worked out well since. He was beaten at Cheltenham but had excuses and back down to 2 miles should run very well here. Hacker Des Places is also feared with likely more in the locker.

Wetherby 2.25

On ratings this looks between the top two in the market with last years winner MOLLY OLLYS WISHES getting the narrow vote from Martello Sky. She won this nicely on seasonal debut last year and only carries 6lb more here as a result of penalties for her wins. She is back at a trip she thrives at and with Dan Skelton having a few early season winners she is the one to beat under Harry Skelton. She should get a nice toe in off See The Sea and hopefully she’ll be hitting the line strong.

Martello Sky gets 2lb from the selection but may have a bit to find still. She goes well fresh and is a danger to all of these. The one I think will most likely chase them home is Nina The Terrier who has plenty to find on ratings but ran really well at this trip at Group 2 level last season. She might want further but should acquit herself well.

Ascot 2.40

Dan Skelton has won the last two renewals of this with AMOOLA GOLD and I make him the one to beat again as he bids to complete a hat-trick of wins in the race! He clearly loves this track and is one to back when fresh as he showed winning this off a 3lb lower mark last season. The ground is a bit quicker this time around but good ground won’t bother him and he is hard to pick holes in. He will be ridden quietly and with plenty of pace on from Before Midnight, Gumball and Monsieur Lecoq he should finish best.

Plenty of dangers likely headed by Ferro Banbou who is another horse that goes particularly well fresh. He has already been well found in the market though and there is one at bigger odds I can see hitting the frame. THYME WHITE still retains potential and I expect him to have a big season and this looks a good starting point.

Wetherby 3.00

This looks a strong renewal of the bet365 Hurdle with SPORTING JOHN the one they all have to beat. He looked like a different horse back over hurdles last season with 2 wins from 3 and will surely be campaigned for the World Hurdle at Cheltenham? He won first time out last season and he will be hard to beat if ready to roll. I find the market can prove quite informative regarding Philip Hobbs runners so unless it speaks massively negative he will be one of my stronger selections on the day.

Last year’s winner Indefatigable had a mixed season after winning this but comes here off a prep-run on the Flat and will make her presence felt. Paul Nicholls has had a great start to the season and Threeunderthrufive looks a tad overpriced if he can produce his form over fences over hurdles here. On his day Thomas Darby can take a race like this but needs to bounce back to form.

Ascot 3.15

A fiercely competitive renewal of the London Gold Cup as you’d expect so I’ve taken two against the field. My main play in the race will be OUR POWER who took really well to chasing last season. He showed a good attitude to beat Jacamar at Wincanton and the latter is a really solid yardstick. He fell as Doncaster but was quickly back on track at Huntingdon and again ran a cracker when fifth in the Ultima at the Festival. He has plenty of potential still and looks sure to go close here.

I’m also going to have an each way saver on ANNSAM for Evan Williams who won the Silver Cup over C&D last December and impressed winning easily at Newbury on final start last season. If he is ready to roll he should hit the frame at decent odds. Tea Clipper is a big danger but doesn’t find much off the bridle but at least has fitness on side. Major Dundee is unexposed and also has to be respected.

Wetherby 3.35

This looks like the rematch between BRAVEMANSGAME and Ahoy Senor. The latter seems to have his number at Aintree at the National meeting but the selection beat him easily in the Kauto Star at Kempton. They have put Secret Investor in the race likely to go from the front so they don’t have a repeat of the keen running at Aintree and we will likely see the best Bravemansgame here. When he is good and in his rhythm he is pretty devastating so I’m happy to chance him reversing that Aintree form at this track.

Ahoy Senor will never be far away as he stays well and digs in. If his jumping is at his best he will be a big danger but that could be a big ask. Eldorado Allen is interesting in here but I do feel he will need to be at his best to take this and he might do better for the outing despite having won fresh last year.
