Keeneland 3.50

A really good race to kick off the ITV coverage of the Breeders’ Cup on Saturday and I think the value lies with ECHO ZULU. Steven Asmussen’s filly has only been beaten once when stepped up to the Kentucky Oaks trip. Her trainer admitted that was silly and she will be more at home over this trip. She would be much nearer the favourites price if she wasn’t drawn in 13 but she has the early speed and stays very well so I think she can overcome that and run a big race.

Her main rival and favourite at the time of writing is Goodnight Olive who has won all of her last 5 runs. Her win at Saratoga was her first run at this level winning nicely. The selection may prove better than the fillies she beat there but she will make it a good race. Of the rest last years runner Ce Ce can’t be discounted if in the same form.

Keeneland 4.29

Highfield Princess has obviously proved a revelation this season winning the Arc Prix Maurice de Gheest in France and then proving that was no fluke to take the Nunthorpe at York. She was electric again winning the Flying Five in Ireland and arrives here at the top of her game. This is a different test though and while she could run huge she might always be struggling to lay tabs on GOLDEN PAL. The latter is probably the fastest sprinter on the planet right now and she has won both starts since blowing out in the King’s Stand. She will be spot on for this and I feel she is impossible to oppose.

Of the rest Creative Force represents Appleby and Buick and shouldn’t be underestimated. He was an excellent third in the Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot last month and a similar run here would likely see him hit the frame. Campanelle has Dettori in the saddle but she only scrapped home last time and needs more to win this. Casa Creed is also worth a mention as he can finish strongly and was only beaten a couple of lengths at the top level last time.

Keeneland 5.10

The Dirt Mile looks a really competitive race with over half the field in with solid chances. CYBERKNIFE edges it for me with versatility at different trips and tracks which will be a big plus here. He is a dual Group 1 winner who will no doubt be staying on at the finish. A mile or just over looks his optimum trip and with a clear run round he will have a say in the finish.

Cody’s Wish lowered the colours of Jackie’s Warrior last time out and is the favourite at the time of writing. It will be interesting to see how he does in this company over a mile. The other big dangers to the selection are Gunite and Pipeline who will be on the speed, both will have to run the race of their lives to hold off the closers.

Keeneland 5.50

The hat-trick seeking IN ITALIAN could be great value here. This filly has taken her form up a notch the last twice. I thought she was impressive beating a horse I held in high regard in Technical Analysis at Saratoga and then she put Regal Glory to the sword in the First Lady over a mile here last month. She has only had 8 starts and remains open to further improvement. I’m keen to keep her on side and she is one of my better value bets of the night.

Nashwa will be a warm favourite but she was beaten in France last time and might find something hitting the line better. I worry if she doesn’t get the perfect trip as she can lack for stamina. I’m not sure what she has beaten either and think there are better plays at the prices. Even Tuesday might prove a better bet as she was in front of her when winning the Oaks back in the summer. Of the rest Above The Curve is likeable and should run a nice race.

Keeneland 6.30

A Breeders’ Cup win is the only thing missing from JACKIE’S WARRIOR‘s incredible career and this looks like the ideal race to get it. He got injured in his defeat last year and the year before he was unsuited by the two-turn mile here. At this trip I can’t see any of them laying up with him and it will take a good one to catch Steven Asmussen’s star.

It doesn’t look a deep race so I would be surprised if the selection got beaten but Kimari, Elite Power and American Theorem could all prove dangerous if running the race of their lives but they would really need to.

Keeneland 7.10

Obviously MODERN GAMES surged clear to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf last year for Appleby so we know he handles the trip over. He has won over in France too so has proved somewhat of a global star for the yard. He was impressive in the Woodbine Mile back in September and then ran a really gutsy race when edged out by Bayside Boy at Ascot last month. He likely still has more to offer and Appleby has been quoted as saying he is their best chance over the two days. Mischief Magic has already put them on the board so hopes will be high once more.

The danger is likely Dreamloper who won her first couple of starts this season before going off the boil in Ireland and then at Goodwood. She was back to her best thrashing Order Of Australia in France last time though and would be a danger to all if repeating that sort of form here. Kinross seems better than ever chasing a five-timer and also has to enter calculations.

Keeneland 7.55

Todd Pletcher very much looks to hold the key to this with the top two in the market coming from his yard. NEST is the one I prefer as her improvement throughout the year has been mightily impressive. She has won two Group 1s and a Group 2 with ease last time out over this trip. She will likely get a good lead into the race by Society and show her turn of foot off the turn in the straight and hopefully put the race to bed.

Stablemate Malathaat is the danger with two nice Group 1 wins in her last two runs. She goes well at Keeneland and won’t be far away if in the same form. Search Results and Clairiere have form with Malathaat and could run big races at their best.

Keeneland 8.40

The way NATIONS PRIDE bolted up at Belmont when last seen was mightily impressive and he looks on an upward curve again. He won the Saratoga Derby before that so is chasing a hat-trick of wins now. He has the potential to be a very smart colt and it is no surprise to see him favourite for this. Depending how Modern Games runs earlier on the card he could end up going off very short.

The biggest danger is likely War Like Goddess who beat Bye Bye Melvin at Belmont last month and can confirm that form. Her strike rate is impressive and she should run well again. Rebel’s Romance has won his last four and is another one with untapped potential here. Mishriff shouldn’t be discounted easily but he hasn’t looked in good enough form to win this finishing down the field in the Arc last month.

Keeneland 9.40

Time for the big one, the $4 million Breeders’ Cup Classic and we are going to find out if FLIGHTLINE is the real deal. He has been odds-on for every start and won all 5 by a total of 63.5 lengths. He stepped up for this trip for the first time last time out in the Pacific Classic and looked better than ever. If he is in that form again he wins the Classic and it would be great to see.

It isn’t a bad race by any means with plenty of Group 1 winners including Epicenter who impressed last time out. He will be a danger along with Life Is Good, Olympiad and Tiaba but they all have John Saldler’s potential superstar to beat.
