Race 4 Zia Park 8.21 Axel Steel (best price 11/10)

Likeable type who looked a nice prospect winning his first two starts of the season; found it tougher up in grade after but back in the winners enclosure over 6f here last month; still capable of better as well.

With 3 wins to his name already this year AXEL STEEL should take a lot of beating tonight. He impressed drawing off late over 6f here last month and with this extra half a furlong firmly in his favour he looks primed to follow up. Sigalert is the obvious pace in the race and he should push forward which could help the selection as he will just track through before hopefully finishing the stronger. Dirt Road Red is on a hat-trick and shouldn’t be easily discounted but this is tougher and he might not be closing quick enough to extend his winning streak. Raisebeforetheflop might be well named but that’s about it as he is badly out of form so is going to need to bounce back in a big way to get involved.

Race 5 Mahoning Valley 7.37 Empire’s Fire (best price 6/4)

Promising type who won his final start last campaign impressively drawing off by 10 lengths; encouraging return when denied just a head at Thistledown last month; can improve again so big chance.

Great chance for EMPIRE’S FIRE to get himself back in the winners enclosure at Mahoning Valley tonight. He was a very impressive winner on final start last campaign and only missed a head at Thistledown. He had more in the locker if called upon and should be too good for this field. Mutiny won easily last time and has won 2 of his last 3 now but goes back up in grade and will definitely find this tougher. Still looks the most obvious danger to the favourite though. Brilliant Journey continues to run well and went close on turf when last seen so must also enter calculations. Of those at bigger odds It’sgoodtobeseen might be a bit of value to rattle the frame here so is worth including.
