Race 8 Laurel Park 8.37 Sommer Velvet (best price 11/10)

Likeable filly who was an impressive winner beating some of these 3 starts back; improved again to follow up before failing to fire up in grade last time; this easier so should be able to bounce back.

Prior to that defeat last time SOMMER VELVET looked a really progressive filly. I’m happy to put a line through that as it was a really tough ask stepping up markedly in grade. Her two wins prior to that were convincing and she holds a few of these on that win back in September. She is still just a 3yo so could improve again and should be up to justifying favouritism tonight. Red Queen won by a neck on penultimate start before struggling last time. If she bounces back she could be the danger to the favourite. Shine Penny was behind the selection a few starts back and has ground to make up despite running well when runner-up last time only missing out by a length at the line.

Race 7 Mahoning Valley 8.33 Atomic Tone (best price 11/10)

Improving fast judging by the way he drew clear to win impressively over this trip at Thistledown last month, nearly 9 lengths clear at the line; can improve again so great chance to go and follow up here.

There was lots to like about the way ATOMIC TONE lengthened away at Thistledown last month. He really hit the line strong and was quite impressive. Now the penny has dropped there should be more to come and given this doesn’t look any tougher I’m confident he can go and follow up. Star Entertainer is also unexposed and got his head in front last time. He drops back in trip which might not suit him but still looks the main danger in this field. Graywing hasn’t been seen since the summer but should still have more to come so is another one to note if fit enough on reappearance. Chaco Spirit was behind Shack The Life on penultimate start so has ground to make up with that horse let alone the rest.
