Friday’s Best Tips

THE JUMPS STARTS TO HOT UP ON FRIDAY! Racing from Catterick, Ascot, Chepstow, Kempton and Dundalk. Daily Double pays 7/1!

NAP – My best tip of the day

Catterick 2.30 Imperial Merlin (best price 13/8)

Well bred being a half-brother to useful hurdler/high-class chaser Secret Investor and improved from his promising debut run to win a bumper impressively at Sedgefield; lovely prospect to go hurdling with.

I know we haven’t seen IMPERIAL MERLIN jump a hurdle yet but the vibes are strong and he is bred to be useful in this discipline. He won a bumper with consummate ease when last seen and with time to progress since he should be a lovely prospect going forward. Cartonne has plenty of experience to draw on having already run five times over hurdles but he has a habit of finishing second and that may well be how this turns out as well. Ballyporeen went close on hurdles debut but failed to build on that at Kelso last time. He still has potential though and it wouldn’t be a huge shock if he was the one to give the selection most to think about. Fenna’s Loss best of the rest but needs to jump better.

NB – My Next or second best tip of the day

MY NEXT BEST ALSO RUNS OVER JUMPS AT ASCOT ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON!

Ascot 12.55 Thunder Rock (best price 2/1)

Progressive over hurdles winning four times and ran out a convincing winner on chase debut at Uttoxeter, drawing clear readily in the end; second and fifth won next time out to frank the form; hard to oppose.

Visually THUNDER ROCK really was quite impressive at Uttoxeter and given the second Brief Times and fifth Quinta Do Mar both won next time out the form has a strong look to it already. He has gone up 7lb but that looks fully deserved and with further improvement on the cards now I think he is well placed to follow up. Solo was back out the doldrums to win on reappearance at Sandown  but I’ll be surprised if he gets a soft time of it here up front and a penalty tempers enthusiasm. Garry Clermont goes well fresh and back over fences also deserves a mention but I think this is a tough enough ask and he should do better with it under is belt. Bowtogreatness and Iamastar both look up against it.
