Race 8 Del Mar 12.00 Havnameltdown (best price 6/5)

Promising colt who made a winning debut over 5f here back in the summer and backed that up pitched into a Grade 3 on just his second start; beaten on return but at the top level; can get back on track here.

It is hard to oppose HAVNAMELTDOWN here despite him losing his unbeaten record over track and trip last time. That came in the Del Mar Futurity where he bumped into Cave Rock. He is still improving and back down in grade his class should shine through. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t make it 3 wins from 4 starts. Newgate looked promising initially winning on debut but he was behind the selection over C&D in September and was again heavily beaten albeit at the top level at Keeneland last time in the Breeders’ Cup so needs to bounce back. Hard To Figure won by 3 lengths last time and looked good but this is a big step up so he will need to improve a fair bit to land a blow at the business end here.

Race 9 Woodbine 10.28 Indy Champagne (best price 5/2)

Improving filly who ran her best race to date beaten just half a length here last month, running on well at the line; remains unexposed so if she steps forward again she should be able to open her account.

With the promise of more to come INDY CHAMPAGNE can get her head in front at Woodbine tonight. She missed by just half a length last time and was still closing at the line. She is open to further improvement and will likely be a warm order to break her duck. Bill Needle was narrowly behind the selection last time and despite being more exposed still rates the biggest danger in this field. Go Take Charge completely blew out last time albeit on turf but needs to bounce back in a big way here to get involved. Guard Of Honour has some good form to his name but he was behind Magnificent Mario when only fifth last time so has ground to make up with that rival let alone the rest in here.
