Newbury 1.20

ITV Racing kicks off on Saturday with a very competitive handicap with KILLER KANE looking like one of the best bets in here. He won two good races before a good third in a better race at Aintree to cap off last season. He ran at Exeter earlier in the month to get him fit for this and got dropped 2lb which is a bonus. That was a credible run and I expect him to go much closer here.

Kapcorse is favourite and whilst his form is pretty solid he seems hard to get right so I am keen to oppose him and Demachine might prove the main danger to my selection. At a bigger price Champagne Court could run a big race given his current form.

Newcastle 1.35

A competitive handicap chase now from Newcastle and nearly the entire field in with a chance here. I like MALINELLO for Ben Pauling though. He chased home Switch Hitter on hurdles debut at Kempton and then won by 12 lengths at Market Rasen. He ran a little flat when second to Flash Collonges at Wincanton on final start and has had a wind op ahead of his chase debut. His yard are going quite well and he should have a decent shout.

Lord Roco ran well when second to Grand Voyage at Ayr and has race-fitness on side so off an unchanged mark should be the danger. Hard to rule out Son Of The Somme as well though who could also be a threat if taking to the cheekpieces.

Newbury 1.55

Nicky Henderson has a good record in this race and runs a good one in Walking On Air. That said it is his first run of the season and he is worth taking on. I have two picks here as I couldn’t split them with the first being PEKING ROSE who won on his comeback run at Aintree last month. That was his first run after a wind op so he could be even better for the outing. He always goes well here and won’t be far away.

At a bigger price LORD BADDESLEY ran a good race behind Knappers Hill before winning very nicely at Plumpton. He is up in the weights as a result but has to go well if in the same form. The danger to both selections is Petit Tonnerre who ran behind Peking Rose at Aintree and may have needed that run. West Balboa was last seen chasing home Stage Star over hurdles and is another one to note as he will likely be backed in the betting.

Newcastle 2.10

It was a shame not to see emphatic Supreme winner CONSTITUTION HILL at Ascot but it sounds like he will take his chance here and it should be a good test of his credentials up against stablemate Epatante who has won this for the last two years (dead-heat last year). His visual performance in the Supreme was backed up by the clock and I’m expecting him to justify cramped odds here before targeting bigger pots down the line.

Epatante has been hugely consistent and if she runs her race again she should chase him home and give Nicky Henderson a 1-2. Not So Sleepy dead-heated with Epatante in this 12 months ago and was a good third in the Cesarewitch to put him spot on for this.

Newbury 2.30

This looks a good field with a few of these expected to go on to bigger things as the season goes on. TEDDY BLUE won like his odds suggested at Fontwell earlier in the month and I have the feeling a mark of 129 underestimates him a fair bit. He ran a cracker behind Knight Salute in a good Grade 2 at Kempton last season before finishing down the field at Cheltenham. His maiden win last time should set him up perfectly for this race.

This is another race at Newbury where Nicky Henderson does well and he has two good runners in First Street and Theatre Glory and if they don’t need their first run of the season they will go well. Pikar for the Skeltons’ is the main danger though.

Newbury 3.05

I love this race and I have a really strong fancy this year in the shape of REMASTERED for David Pipe. This flashy chestnut won his first 3 over fences before finishing fifth behind Galvin in the four-miler at the Cheltenham Festival. He was in the process of running a big race in this last year before falling at the water. He is 4lb lower this time around and warmed up for it with a convincing win over hurdles at Aintree. Could be better than ever.

Tons of dangers as you’d expect and stablemate Gericault Roque could be the biggest of them. He took well to chasing last season placing on all 5 starts and was a cracking second to Corach Rambler in the Ultima. He can still improve so definite claims.

Newcastle 3.25

The Rehearsal is always a good race and it’s usually won by a quality chaser. This year we have one of the best chasers around lining up in L’HOMME PRESSE. Venetia Williams’ stable star has missed a few engagements due to ground so I hope he runs here. I am usually against the top weight in this race but he could have far too much class and if near full fitness he should win this.

Aye Right won this last year and rates the danger in a race that lacks depth this year. Happygolucky was a very good horse before being unlucky with injuries so I’m interested to see how he runs. At the bottom of the weights Into Overdrive is also on the up.

Newbury 3.40

The way AMARILLO SKY jumped and travelled en route to winning at Cheltenham on return was impressive and up 4lb he looks the one to beat again if in the same mood here. He should still have more to come over fences and this doesn’t look a great deal tougher so I don’t think they’ll be too many excuses. He was highly tried towards the end of last season so no surprise to see him finding this level a lot easier.

Only Money looked really progressive winning on return at Plumpton and then following up at Worcester and he didn’t do a lot wrong when third to Gunsight Ridge at Aintree. Could easily be the danger. Bun Doran needs to bounce back and Eclair D’ainay also noted.
