Could this be the match of the tournament so far? Germany suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Japan has certainly put more on this game than had been anticipated. They looked vulnerable late on in that clash and with Spain hitting 7 past Costa Rica we may well see the goals flow once more. Germany know they have to get something out of this so it will be interesting to see how they line-up against arguably the most impressive team so far in the tournament.

Spain v Germany Preview

Spain have now won 5 of their last 6 matches conceding just 3 goals. They played some lovely free-flowing football against Costa Rica and despite that being a match they were expected to win it was no surprise to see their odds tumble to win the World Cup given how easy they made it look. This is a much sterner test of their credentials but I still think they’ll have too much for Germany who are really up against it after that opening disappointment.

Germany had mixed form coming into this World Cup having suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Hungary in the Nations League. They have added pressure after that loss to Japan and while Musiala looked promising Havertz was quiet and Gnabry struggled to make an impact. I think Spain will have too much with runners overlapping on both sides with Gavi linking it all up. Spain look the play but with BTTS as I expect this to be quite open from the off.
