It was great to see this race rescheduled after Ascot was called off due to the snow and freezing conditions. CHAMP was victorious in this last year and in what looks a weaker renewal he should have a great chance of winning again. This year he has had a prep-run where he beat his long-term rival Paisley Park by a neck. The race will likely setup similarly and I feel Champ will hold that form from last month.
Paisley Park is the obvious danger and will be flying home at the finish but with a lack of pace on I think he might be left with too much to do again. Miranda is the second favourite at the time of writing but does need to take another big step forward.
It was a shame to see Ballygrifincottage come out of this as we have just the 5 runners heading to post now and Paul Nicholls saddles two of them. McFabulous is favourite but I’m still not convinced by him off the bridle. I’m going to chance stablemate GELINO BELLO possibly making all. He is unbeaten over fences having won at Wetherby and then followed up in a match at Exeter. He is hard to weigh up and might have more to come.
Thyme Hill was the best of these over hurdles and won nicely at Exeter on chase debut despite looking rough around the edges. He disappointed at Newbury though and found McFabulous 6 and a half lengths too strong. Hard to see him reversing that form.
Wetherby 1.35
This race has cut up a bit too with Remastered and Happygolucky not running but it will still be an intriguing race. INTO OVERDRIVE is clearly still improving with with his run of 4 wins ending with a second behind the classy L’Homme Presse. That was an eye catching run just falling short against a really good horse and if in the same form here he has to go close and looks decent value in the betting as well.
Shan Blue hasn’t been the same since he was 20 lengths clear over C&D over a year a go and took a bad fall. If he can bounce back to his best he has to be a danger to all off 148. Sporting John at a much bigger price could go well back in handicap company.

Impossible to oppose the unbeaten CONSTITUTION HILL here. He couldn’t have been any more impressive slamming Epatante by 12 lengths in the Fighting fifth last month. He should come on for that seeing as it was his first start for 256 days. This is still just his fifth run over hurdles so he will keep improving for a while yet and I’m expecting an even bigger performance. Definitely with the overs markets on winning lengths.
I am not telling you anything the market isn’t as Epatante would have to be the one to finish second. She is a very talented mare herself and I expect that Fighting Fifth form to play out. Metier impressed at Doncaster but this is obviously a great deal tougher.

The King George is always the highlight at Christmas and this renewal is no different. I have L’HOMME PRESSE edging it from Bravemansgame. Venetia Williams’ superstar started the season with a very good win in a handicap giving weight to all his rivals. That was his sixth win in seven runs and I think he is still getting better. They thought he would improve a lot for the run and I think he is the one to beat.
Bravemansgame is the danger and the favourite at the time of writing. He will get a really strong pace to travel in behind and most likely won’t be anyone travelling better but I do worry about how much he finds off the bridle.
Envoi Allen ran a cracker at Down Royal a venue which he loves. I’m not currently convinced he will be a top class stayer but he still clearly has a lot to give. With a good gallop a held up Royal Pagaille or Eldorado Allen could be big prices to place closing late.
Boxing Day ITV Racing Lucky 15
I love watching the racing on Boxing Day and as always I have a Lucky 15 to get stuck into. With Constitution Hill such short odds I’ve combined the other four to make a nice multiple. Pays 250/1!
