Leopardstown 1.10
The way QUEENS BROOK sauntered clear in the closing stages at Punchestown last month was impressive and she is a mare going the right way over hurdles now. She moves back up in trip to 2 and a half miles and will be doing all her best work late in rain softened ground. She carries a 3lb penalty but rivals are thin on the ground and she is expected to dominate this contest.
Shewearsitwell recorded her fourth win over hurdles showing a good attitude to get up on the line in a competitive handicap at Punchestown. Whatsavailable and Floueur who were down the field have won since as had Longhouse Poet who was pulled up.
It is a shame Mighty Potter doesn’t run here as he would have added a lot of depth to the race. It gives GAILLARD DU MESNIL a great chance of taking a Grade 1. He ran well behind Mighty Potter on his first run of the season and will likely strip a lot fitter here. He stays well and the form the yard are in winning 6/7 races at the track on Tuesday he should take a lot of beating against this field.
Three Stripe Life is the danger up in trip. He won easily on chase debut but made a bad mistake and pulled-up last time. This will be run at a slower pace so he will have a better chance of getting into a rhythm. He looks Elliott’s best chance – won 4 of the last 5.
Leopardstown 2.20
This race has been dominated by Sharjah over the years winning the last 4 renewals. This is the best renewal for a long time with Willie Mullins running 3 top horses here plus Gordon Elliott running Pied Piper. STATE MAN looks like the best Mullins horse here after winning his last 4 with ease. That included brushing Sharjah aside in the Morgiana last month. At the age of 5 he has a lot more to come and should win another Grade 1 here.
Sharjah is the main danger at a track he loves and won’t make it easy for his stablemate. Vauban has done nothing but impress and will likely have a lot more to come this season but may need this first run of the season. Pied Piper likely needs to improve again.
Doncaster 2.40
I thought GESSKILLE was a little unlucky to bump into Ashtown Lad at Aintree as he made up a lot of ground and just couldn’t get to the eventual winner who got first run and kept finding. The pair came nicely clear from the third and the field was well strung out. He is 4lb higher but deserves to win a nice pot and with Toby Wynne claiming a handy 5lb I think another big run beckons here.
Given the nature of the race and the place enhancements on offer I’m going to include OMAR MARETTI as well. He was hugely competitive last season winning at Newcastle and Catterick and given he is proven fresh he should run a big race.
Leopardstown 2.55
Undoubtedly the most competitive race live on ITV Racing on Thursday so it won’t surprise you that I’ve taken two against the field. I do like the chances of GREEN GLORY for Charles Byrnes. He has shown enough promise in maiden hurdles to think an opening mark of 111 could be lenient. I expect him to improve and if he does he could serve it up to these. I thought we might get bigger than 4/1 but even still he is the main play.
At double figure odds NEVERADULLMOMENT is worth an each way saver. He didn’t show much on reappearance at Navan but likely needed that and his third at Naas on final start last season makes him a player. A tongue strap goes on and he might surprise a few.
Doncaster 3.10
It is the usual suspects at the top of the market for this with last years winner ZAMBELLA and the 2020 winner Annie Mc. Zambella has hit the ground running this season with good second up in trip on reappearance before routing the field at Carlisle last time. She does give 4lb to her rival but with the form she is in she has to be the one to beat so no surprise to see her heading the betting.
Annie Mc at her best will go close but she is clearly hard to get to the racecourse over the last couple of years with just 3 runs in 2 years. She will be a danger if she needed the run behind Zambella last time but she needs to come on a lot for it.
ITV Racing Win Acca
Another 6 races live on ITV Racing on Thursday and with so many short priced favourites I’ve decided to combine them to make a Win Acca which I think looks decent value. Struggling to see a weakness in this. Pays 12/1!
ITV Racing Win Acca
Leopardstown 1.10 Queens Brook
ITV Racing Win Double
The other two races are really competitive but I like both of my main selections so I’ve combined them to make a nice looking double. Pays 20/1!
