With the rain causing delay on Tuesday we had an overlap of games. That break suited Mannarino who came from behind to beat Isner. Aliassime found himself needing 5 sets again to get past Molcan. The undoubted shock of the night was Nadal losing in straight sets to McDonald. It looked like his hip was causing him all sorts of issues again so perhaps that is the last time we’ll see him at the Australian Open. Sinner was impressive again dispatching Etcheverry in straight sets. He is going under the radar as one of the dark horses this year I feel. Humbert dumped out Gasquet in straight sets. Bautista Agut continued his good run of form cruising past Sousa by 3 sets to love. Medvedev didn’t seem at his best but after a gruelling first set managed to win easily against Millman.
On the women’s side Ostapenko finished strongly to beat Bondar 2 sets to 1. Bucsa sprung a surprise dumping out Andreescu. Swiatek won in straight sets again and the likes of Pegula, Kalinina, Krejcikova, Keys and Vondrousova found themselves safely through. After a brief scare Coco Gauff came through in straight sets against a battling Emma Raducanu. Gracheva upset Kasatkina and Siegemund came from behind to beat Bronzetti.
Tons more to come on Thursday and I can’t wait!
