Just the 5 runners likely for this race and GALAHAD QUEST gets a confident vote. He has been second on 3 of his last 4 starts and has been given a chance by the handicapper now. He has dropped down to 128 after going close off a higher mark and is fitted with cheekpieces which could help find some improvement as well and I fancy him to go close.
Stolen Silver is the main danger despite giving a lot of weight away here. He has been running really well in top level handicaps at Cheltenham and he will run another big race. Of the rest I think Mackenberg is weighted to chase the other two home.
I am going to side with the near outsider of the field in BRIDGE NORTH for Henry Daly. This 7yo is still fairly lighted raced and I’m confident he is better than what he has been showing so far this season. He lacked fluency at Cheltenham last time and this test should suit better. If he jumps better in what looks calmer waters then he might surprise a few under Richard Patrick.
Barbados Buck’s is favourite for Paul Nicholls and does ave some decent form in the book this season. If he finds further improvement he should get seriously competitive. Annual Invictus is proving frustrating and pulled up at Wincanton last time. He lacks consistency but could easily bounce back so another one to watch at a price.
Warwick 2.05
You can see why LOVE ENVOI is odds-on to win this with form figures of 111111211. She has looked better than ever this season winning both starts at Sandown. She won the Mares Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last year and will likely take this before going back to the Festival.
Molly Ollys Wishes is the main danger back down in trip. Some of her best form is over shorter than 3 miles so she could go well here. They all have a lot to find on paper with the selection though. Theatre Glory merely plugged on behind Grey Dawning and will need to better that to get competitive.
Newbury 2.25
I am surprised Hitman is so short for this as while his form obviously stands out this season bumping into Riders Onthe Storm and then bolting up at Haydock he was pulled up in the King George last time. He was also behind last years winner of this race ELDORADO ALLEN when the pair met at Exeter last year and I think the latter could confirm that form here. He also finished in front of the favourite obviously in the King George latest and in my opinion is a horse that is largely underestimated.
Of the rest Does He Know is a tricky type but clearly when on a going day could be a danger to all. He won nicely at Cheltenham when last seen and has likely been targeted at this. Fanion D’estruval bounced back with a good third in the Rowland Meyrick and is another one to note in a good renewal.
Warwick 2.40
After El Fabiolo laid down an impressive marker at the Dublin Racing Festival last weekend, the favourite for the Arkle JONBON runs his final race before Cheltenham here. He seems to have scared most of his rivals off and on paper he should win this with ease. He is rated well clear of this field and his form is by far and away the best. Barring a mistake he will take this before going to the Arkle next month.
They all have plenty to find to even get the selection off the bridle but if I had to nominate a danger it would be Haddex Des Obeaux who has impressed in handicaps on his last two runs and this looks like a logical next step for Gary Moore’s charge.
Newbury 3.00
Funambule Sivola won this last year so has to be feared but GREANETEEN is expected to be hard to beat. He won the Celebration Chase at Sandown and then the Haldon Gold Cup off a big weight on return before bumping into Edwardstone in the Tingle Creek. That is a serious level of form and he will be primed for a big run in this so no surprise to see him odds-on.
I do think the market has it spot on but Elixir De Nutz could run well for Joe Tizzard. He hacked up at Wincanton thrashing Galahad Quest (who I rate as a good bet earlier on the show) and before that bumped into the improving Xcitations. He could be one to play in the without market if you wanted to oppose Funambule Sivola.
Newbury 3.35
The Betfair Hurdle this year has a much smaller field than the maximum 24 due partly to faster ground forecast at Newbury. The hot favourite for the race FILEY BAY seems to favour quicker conditions and everything seems set up for a massive run here. Emmet Mullins is superb with these handicappers and you wouldn’t be surprised if he had a lot more to come after two easy wins in his first two handicap starts. I am not sure a 9lb rise will be enough to stop him going close here. It’ll be interesting to see what the market makes of him as I feel 7/2 could end up looking generous.
My other selection is MASTER CHEWY who might be my cliff horse this season at the current rate. He always catches the eye and travels like a dream only to get beaten into second. This race could prove ideal as he will have a strong pace to follow to take him deep into the contest. Nigel Twiston-Davies has a great record in the race so he looks a big player at a nice each-way price. Rubaud is the main danger after running well against Rare Edition last time out after he won his two previous races with ease. Icare Allen will be better for his last run and has already been popular in the market. Highway One O Two has a lot of weight but I think he can outrun his massive odds.
ITV Racing Lucky 15
Another top day of racing on ITV on Saturday and minus the odds-on shots I’ve managed to put together a Lucky 15 which looks decent value to me. Pays 700/1!
ITV Racing Lucky 15
Warwick 1.30 Galahad Quest
ITV Racing Win Acca
With some short priced favourites on ITV Racing on Saturday too I really like the look of this acca. You may have noticed I’ve included Galahad Quest in both the Lucky 15 and this acca as he would be my best bet on the channel on Saturday. Pays 9/1!
