Lingfield 1.30

This race is always really wide open with this years renewal no exception. ALLIGATOR ALLEY is a bigger price than I thought with Tone The Barone clear favourite at the time of writing. He was beaten by that rival last time in a handicap but he was giving him weight. They race off the same weights here and he should reverse the form if all goes to plan. He is ultra-consistent and should be vying for favouritism in my opinion so it will be interesting to see what the market does come post time.

Tone The Barone will be a threat to all but will have to be better than his last run to take this more competitive race off level weights. Arecibo on the all weather is interesting as his turf form would see him right in the mix but he has to prove himself off a break as well as on the surface.

Alligator Alley 9/2

Kempton 1.50

Paddy Brennan was reportedly a bit frustrated with himself on SCRIPTWRITER at Cheltenham. He thought he hit the front too soon but I just thought he bumped into one in the shape of Comfort Zone and that is form I expect to work out well in time. He had won his first two starts over hurdles prior to that and still retains plenty of potential. He sets the standard on that piece of form and with further improvement to come should get his head back in the winners enclosure now.

Nusret has finished behind Lossiemouth and Blood Destiny the last twice and looks the obvious danger for Joseph O’Brien. Rare Middleton made a bright start winning on debut over hurdles at Taunton and while this is a big step up straight away he must be respected if improving on that bare form.

Lingfield 2.05

The Winter Derby is always a race I love to watch each year and whilst I don’t think there is the depth of previous races LORD NORTH gives it a lot of appeal again. He was second in the race last year before a solid campaign at Group 1 level. There is no horse in here as good as Alenquer and with the yard in great form he will be hard to beat and that is very much being reflected in the betting at the time of writing.

Forest Of Dean won this in 2021 but finished quite far behind Lord North in last years renewal. He has had a prep run so will have fitness on his side but needs to step forward to be dangerous. Saying that he still looks the biggest threat and could give the yard a 1-2 here with Harrovian even having a chance to finish third too.

Lord North 4/5

Kempton 2.25

I am a fan of Boothill but he really should have run better at Doncaster last time and I think there might be value in opposing at a short enough price again. DATSALRIGHTGINO still has potential to do better despite having to reverse form with the favourite from earlier in the season. He bumped into Stage Star at Cheltenham and leaves the impression he could still be capable of a bigger performance. If he jumps well then he may serve it up to the jolly.

It is not just a two-horse race though as Solo has had another wind op since chasing home Thunder Rock and then Balco Coastal and if bringing his best form would obviously have to be feared as well. Tweed Skirt blew out last time but had looked promising previously too so she is also not completely out of it.

Kempton 2.25

Datsalrightgino 3/1

Kempton 3.00

This is 5/1 the field at the time of writing which shows how competitive it is and favourite CAP DU NORD appeals backing up after an easy win at Ascot last week. He won this race last year off the same mark but is worse off here carrying the penalty but is clearly thriving. He won so well last time he has to be the one they all have to beat.

You have to respect Frodon in handicaps as he has carried top weight and won plenty. He could easily jump round off the front and grind them all into the ground but this is his fifth run of the season and it may not be so easy. Of the rest Clondaw Castle could go well as he ran well after a long layoff at the track and will improve for it.

Newcastle 3.25

This time of year is when we usually see the best of KITTY’S LIGHT as if you look at his form last year he chased home Cap Du Nord at Kempton and then ran huge bumping into stablemate Win My Wings in the Scottish National. He hasn’t quite fired so far this season but this marathon trip is clearly right up his street and back down to an attractive mark of 132 he should be a danger to all. The yard took this last year with Win My Wings and he is sure to be popular.

Hard to pinpoint an exact danger but Bavington Bob is still a horse I like and he didn’t run badly at all when chasing home Just Don’t Know at Kelso last month. He is off a mark he can get seriously competitive off so might be worth a saver. The Galloping Bear fell in the Welsh National at Chepstow but if bouncing back is another one that could get involved.

Newcastle 3.25

Kitty’s Light 11/4

Kempton 3.40

This looks a quality renewal with Gary Moore’s HANSARD the one they all have to beat. He turned over Master Chewy last time at Plumpton who I quite fancied and he was giving him weight that day too. He is still improving and a good win here may well see him take his place in the Supreme at Cheltenham next month.

Rubaud I would have quite fancied to run a big race here but he disappointed in the Betfair Hurle a few weeks ago and is on a retrieval mission. Ukantango is my idea of the main danger after finding soft ground and Grade 1 company too much last time. He will get good ground here and run a big race.
